One of the most common questions here in the Sentra/200SX/G20 section is "What exhaust should I get?" Besides performance, many of us are concerned with what our exhaust sounds like. It's a legitimate concern, as the seemingly ubiquitous fartcan/hornets' nest/bumblebee noise is all too common from the designers of exhaust systems for any econobox.

Now, I know we have members with a number of different setups. Therefore, anyone with a clip of their exhaust should post it up here so that there is a library of sorts for people to refer to whenever they want to see/hear cars like their's.

Exhaust Info:Stock catbacks run ~2in in diameter.

Aftermarket systems range from 2.25 to 3in, depending on application.

QG18 and MR20-powered vehicles should stick to 2.25in unless they've got some kind of custom turbo setup or other special concern.

SR20 and QR25-powered vehicles should stick to 2.25in if NA and only doing I/H/E and minor mods. Once cams come into play, 2.5in won't hurt, but isn't necessary, either. Neither engine has been conclusively shown to suffer losses from running a 2.5in instead of a 2.25.

Turbocharged vehicles should go for a 3in exhaust and invest in a high-flow catalytic converter or test/race pipe.

sounds good man, this should be a good thread if some more people take advantage of it. hopefully i'll have my exhaust soon so i'll be able to post. i love the way your intake and exhaust sound together from inside. oh yeah, pretty sick under load too. you know that's not a honda.

The mic on my digi is ridiculously sensitive, so it gets overloaded and clips the sound a bit. The exterior shot at the end surprised me. It sounded like the depths of Hell were coming out of my car (in a good way) even when I was 100yds down the road. Fortunately, it's loud without being obnoxious (I think). It's not as loud as the video indicates, but it's close.

I know I've seen more clips posted around here before, so this thread will grow with time.

This is a great idea for those of us who dont have any mods yet. It also cuts down on the "What exhasut should I get" posts. Great idea!

By the way, your setup sounds real good!

so... this is a good idea for a thread, especially since it seems there are a lot of should i use this or that or this posts about exhaust. in my reading of one of those posts (BRM vs. Stillen i believe) there was videos of some S13 with what they quoted was BRM w/ 14" resonator. it had dual exhaust tips in the vid (and following some youtube links, i've seen many more similar BRM setups). however, in searching BRM's web catalog, all i see offered for nissan/infinit products are single tip exhausts. anyone know exactly what product the "BRM w/14" resonator" video portrays?

p.s. some naive-ity here, but what is a resonator? (i would assume that refers to "muffler")

thanks!!!

you can order brm exhaust with a single tip or dual tip on the muffler. both are identical internally and provide the same sound, it's just a matter of preference. i believe the dual tip is like an extra $30 or so.

the main function of a resonator is to quiet down the exhaust a little bit, and it will also cancel out alot of the higher exhaust notes which results in the lower tone you hear in exhausts similar to brm. your exhaust won't sound raspy at high rpms with a resonator.

You'll have to talk to Greg or whoever they have answering the phones at BRM to get the exact specs, but most of their exhausts are offered with a dual tip configuration.

A resonator is essentially another, smaller muffler placed further up in the exhaust system. Your car has one from the factory. It quiets noise, especially in the cabin, and really cleans up the tone.

Just so everyone knows:

I'm going to clean up the thread as it goes by copying everyone's descriptions and clip URLs into the first post. That way there's an index up top, then discussion afterward. With clips and discussion being mixed together, it could be difficult to someone who's searching for a certain clip.

I think that this thread will have to sit awhile before it really becomes what I'm thinking it should be. It can be a PITA to put together a decent clip and we have a lot of intermittent posters in this section.

Regardless, we'll wait and see a bit. I may do some hunting around later to see if I can find clips of a few other systems and just put them up myself.

i've got a couple clips, interior and exterior, of the stock exhaust on the 07 spec v that i took for comparison purposes, kind of a before and after in anticipation of getting my new exhaust on there. if you want i can upload them to youtube and post a link on this thread, don't know if your intention was just aftermarket exhaust clips or what... let me know.

If you can figure out how to put them together with your aftermarket clips (if UPS ever follows the yellow brick road and finds a brain), that'd be best.

If you're still having trouble putting them together, when you have all the clips done you can email them to me (I'll give you an alternate email addy to the one listed in my profile so that it can handle large files) and I'll trim/put them together for you.

i definitely can't merge the clips with movie maker, i also tried another free downloadable move editor that wouldn't work either so i'm pretty sure it has something to do with the clips, not the software. i don't know if it would be a compatability issue because the camcorder is new or if there's some kind of copyright encription put on the file when you upload it to the computer, but if you want you can give it a try. email me the address you want me to send it to and i will send you two clips to try out and see if you have any luck. thanks.

Well the exhaust finally got here last night and I JUST finished installing it. Took a quick teaser video just to get the sound on here. I think it sounds pretty good on the video but even 10 times better in person. I don't know why the camera mic is picking up that sound during backpressure, you can't hear that in person, anyone know what it is? I have to say I absolutely love the way this exhaust sounds on my car, both from inside and from outside. I took it out for a quick spin and it's not obnoxious at all, on the highways you don't even hear it unless accelerating and under normal city driving it makes your car sound "authoritative" but not ricer in the least. i'll get a video under load and a drive by, as well as interior clip this weekend or whenever the weather clears up a bit. On my youtube profile i have some stock video clips for comparison if you're interested. please feel free to comment. Enjoy!

Oh, man i found out that movie maker lacks a lot of updated codecs. .MKV files are the newest pain in the arse to watch and my bro hooked me up with something called "Combined Community Codec Pack". I'm at home in the country on dial up, but i can drive to the college for high speed. If i can email it to you, i will. Otherwise we'll find another way. It'll update movie maker and also give you this other program to play the files.

Good deal on this topic by the way. I'm also contemplating which cat-back setup to go after; really, aside from BRM and VRS, i'm not sure whats available. But i can check out the vids as well when i get into town.

i think the '02 spec v sound will be very similar to the '07, they use the same engine. the BRM sounds even better in person, you would be happy with it if you are looking for deep non ricey sound.

I'm pretty sure I will be very happy with that. BRM with 2.5' piping is where I'm leaning right now.
