Was feeling lazy but seems that class hasn't started yet............so:

Hyundai’s new Genesis coupe has been caught uncovered at a market research event sitting next to its toughest competitor, the Ford Mustang. The car was photographed by someone at the event, however nobody has claimed responsibility for the pictures, which turned up on an online forum. The final production version is expected to debut late next year as a 2009 model but a near-production concept version will be unveiled at next month’s Los Angeles Auto Show.

The new car will replace the current FWD Tiburon coupe but will feature a much more powerful V6 engine and possibly the new ‘Tau’ V8 powerplant for a flagship model. Rumors suggest a 2.0L Turbo engine with 215hp and 217ft.lb of torque will get an incredibly good price of $19,900, while a 3.8L V6 with 300hp and 280ft.lb would be priced higher at $25,990. It’s also suggested the car would get a limited slip diff and optional Brembo brakes.

As you can tell from the aggressive styling, Hyundai is clearly looking to succeed with this coupe where the Tiburon could not. As a company looking to move up in the world, Hyundai is doing a great job styling its new products such as this and the upcoming large Genesis sedan. It’s still likely, however, that Hyundai will use a different badge for the new coupe, just as it did with the Tiburon.

As for pics:

My take on it, well if it can handle as good as it looks, we could be looking at alot of hyundai fanboys being formed as with 20 grand price tag for a RWD turbo'd coupe, nothing else can really compete with it. The only contender I see in that price range would be the Civic SI and although that car has amazing resale value, the lower torque rating and the drivetrain layout may have the sport compact buyers switching over to try out the other "H".

That is HOT!

I'd likely buy one if it retains the companies warranty!

well the most obvious observation is that the 4 cylinder is what would sell. anyone caught buying the v6 model should be shot IMO since your in Z33 pricing by then and in no way could the tiburon be better than a Z33. But still, nothing else like it on the market right now at that price..............

a friend of mine has been on top of this new "tibby" for a while. he's been a hyundai fanatic since he bought his tib back in 04/05 i think he's been telling us about the new genesis platform for well over a year now. he knows people who were involved with the engineering of the drivetrain (which has been in development for a while). at first we were always, "yeah, sure... a rwd hyundai... right..." then months afterward we started hearing and reading about the new hyundai platform.

i really hope that the new genesis does extremely well. maybe it will motivate the other automakers to get on the ball and offer us sport-compact enthusiasts some better, less expensive options.

i'm anticipating seeing a rwd GEMA world engine in the turbo i4 variant of the genesis.

wow, that actually looks pretty good.

it's about time someone started hearing our pleas...i guess it kinda makes sense that it would be hyundai, none of the big car companies are gonna take a chance on that, maybe if this is successful, which i don't see why it wouldn't be, the other car makers will start producing something similar and we shall reap the rewards.

hell i'd probably buy it if it looks just like that with the i4 turbo for maybe a little cheaper price tag with the warranty only because it's a hyundai, it were nissan with something like that then i'd pay the 20gs

Hopefully if the sales go through the roof on this, it will finally wake Nissan up and motivate them to go through with the, rumored RWD platform everyone is hearing about so much.

meh, could be nice i suppose. anxiously waiting to see if the car as a whole can perform anywhere near what the hype is selling it as.

hyundai has sort of a negative rep to overcome as far as performance and finish, so im sure they will try to pull all the stops as this is their debut into the "real" car market.

any idea how much it will weigh? how about the warranty program? i hope the new engines live up to their optimistic ratings as their previous offerings seemed to be pretty anemic for their displacement...

if that pic is close to the final design, its plagued by the same problems that most of us have with new cars these days. front/rear bumpers, headlights and wheel arches are all cookie-cutter blah, i like the overall shape though. anyone know who designed it?

LOL, why are people not excited about this, because it's a Hyundai and not a Nissan?

Hyundai makes pretty damn good cars at the moment, just about as good as Nissan if you look at the quality ratings (if not better?)

thats fine but their performance record doesn't line up favorably with makers like nissan, toyota and even honda.

its all about their rep, and its something they are going to have to build. there really is no precedent for a korean company as far as a performance-oriented car that competes outside of its class is concerned.

on a side-note, hash, i wanted to talk to you about some business-related ideas i had and get your perspective on it. email me when you have a chance.

exactly. i think that by beating the big automakers to the punch with an affordable sports car, they are going to have them sweating in their jockeys to get some competition on the market at a similar price. even if this car sucks, it could be good for us as it will force the hands of Toyota and Nissan with their lightweight RWD entries.

one possible downside: due to the low price and the following Hyundai's Tiburon has built over the years, I can see a lot of cars being bought and immediately "riced-out" and driven irresponsibly, causing a lot of wrecks and high insurance costs associated with the car.
