I know I've read posts here on this topic, but the search function isn't much help. I may be missing how to search *just* the G35 forum but I'm getting threads from all over the Nico forums when I try.

So, I apologize if this has already been discussed...

My 2004 Coupe has a problem with the transmission where it "bangs" or "bumps" as it shifts...usually around 40mph. I had read on this forum where this was a simple fix for the dealer to make and wanted to make sure I had that info when I take it in for the service. Can anyone remember or find where this was discussed? It would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Unfortunately, I don't remember anything about this... I found one TSB, but this isn't from a complete list, and I don't think it applies to your model year. Maybe this is what you were thinking of though?

Okay, thanks for the replies, guys.

I know I read a thread on this topic here at Nico shortly after I bought my car back in March. But my searches aren't fruitful as it returns everything from all of Nico, not just hte G35 forum. Anybody got any suggestions for more effective searches?

The solution was a simple replacement of an item in the transmission, so Q45's service bulletin item sounds like the ticket...but my car is newer than what is listed in that service bulletin.

The harsh shifting I'm experiencing is very consistant (not to mention disconcerting) and I would like to get it addressed.

Well, no wonder my searches were coming up empty. It looks like the G35 forum only goes back to mid-April even with the "365 days" setting enabled.

Anybody know how to get to threads older than April?

Search using the "archived content" in G35 forum and you can alternate from "topic title", "to post bodies", and it will give you a much larger response.

Pretty common on the Q45s. What I woudl do is get a bottle of lubeguard RED and throw it in there....

In the case of 5AT Lubeguard BLACK would be more useful as it is closer to the special ATF used to deal with the dual lockup clutches.

FWIW, this must be the thread I was thinking of in my initial post here:

zerothread?id=229339

(thanks for the help with searching the archives, beancooker!)

Just to followup, but my dealer didn't notice any problems with my car when they tested it last weekend (figures). It happens pretty consistantly for me though. It's almost exactly like the documented problem with the 2003 and earlier G35 transmission's though. A harsh transmission shift at low speeds, and slow ability to engage at all speeds. Frustrating.

See if you can get the tech. to ride with you on a test drive. The area around d!ck Smith has a wide variety of hills and speeds... you should be able to recreate it, even if the tech. didn't.

Good luck!
