And not to start ****, but why did you choose rear mount? No room in the engine bay?
Hmm, interesting idea to cover it up with the shell of the old muffler. If not them some type of locking mechanism might be a good idea.
Rear mount was decided on first because of space, then I started to like some of the benefits the rear mount offers. Cooler turbo, less need for an intercooler with low boost, relatively easy install (still a big job), cool sound , and to be different. My nephew had a truck with an STS turbo kit on it and it was awesome. STS used his truck for a bunch of magazine articles and it was at SEMA one year at their booth. Fell in love with the concept but didn't want to fork out the cash for their system, tho I may have that much into it by the time I'm done anyway. But I built it myself so I'll have the pride in that
Not sure I have any room to plumb the air filter anywhere else but straight up into the trunk, it's pretty tight to run 3.5" tubing anywhere with the exhaust and compressor tubing in the way. Still considering the trunk option. Have been thinking about building a box in the trunk above the turbo to house the air filter and maybe supply the box with fresh air from somewhere. The idea would probably work well but seems a little cheezy to me so I can't decide. I'll probably leave it where it is for the time being and make changes/upgrades later. Bigger fish to fry at the moment.
Side view...note that the wastegate and oil lines are not installed yet so they may hand down a bit.
