I rather doubt you'll be able to make up the HP difference that easily. With an estimated 330 SAE HP compared to the 280-298 BHP, it's got a bit more ground to make up than 32-50 HP due to the new HP standards.
Even then, peak HP is only an indication of power, but the New 3.7 Liter version will be sporting infinitely variable valve timing and lift. While actual results are still to be seen, one of the advantages of this technology is the possibility of a very flat torque curve. At the very least, I hope they can pull out a much flatter torque curve then we might be used to seeing. If this occurs, we may get a bit more area under the curve resulting in more of an advantage to the G37 than the peak HP numbers might suggest. We'll have to wait and see, but I certainly wouldn't make such an assumption just yet.
