NA -> TT Conversion Guide (salvaged from Z1)

Well I noticed that Z1 has recently taken down their tech article on the swap, and concequently raised their price for the TT swaps and redesigned their swap page. So with the intention of doing the (300zx) world some good, I've fished it out of my browser cache, recreated it, and hosted it on my own site, where it is safe FOR EVER (or until I stop owning my own domain... not likely )

So enjoy, and any of you reading this for the first time, SUCK IT UP.

As soon as my 99 jdm 5sp transmission comes in i'll get started

Just researching some stuff about the clutch booster, apparently the NA's dont have one and I'm using an automatic tt front clip so I don't imagine it has one either!

well if you can't afford a ttz then you definately can't afford the conversion seeing as it is 9000$ at z1motorsports.

Just for clarification, I don't work at z1.

my brother had the swap done and they dropped the motor in, waited 8-9 months for the intake hoses, messed with the wiring, adjusted the idle and messed with the cooling... Nothing was done with the brake system. What should be done if anything, other than the rotors and the calipers if any thing.

Is there any other place that will do the tt swap for me besides Z1? I would try to do the swap at home like you guys, but unfortunately, my friends are all into mustangs and cameros, so I won't be getting any help from them.

thanx TG, i checked them out but they're also pretty pricey, so when it comes down best bang for my buck...i'd have to go with Z1, they're level of expertise is unbeatable and it's obvious by they're shop cars and customer cars alike!

Their is a place in Benbrook off of loop 820 that did the swap for my bro, but I personally would never go their do to the problems that I had to fix for my brother. over heating, the idle... it just doesn't cut it for me. If you bring a car to a shop I think it needs to be fixed properly not half a$$ed. The car was in perfect running order when brought to them, we left with the swap running pretty *hitty if you ask me. About a year later after dropping the car off at the shop we picked it up in crappy condition. The shop charged almost double the quote that they gave us. Why you ask, THEY HAD PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes it was over 10g's but under 20g's
I should have did it myself!

RameyZ (Brett Ramey & Tim Davis) - they were kind enough to convert my NA - MUCH cheaper than Z1, btw and better quality work. They work out of the Cincinatti, Ohio area.

Look up SilverTwin (Tim) on CincyZ.com, TT.net or RoadGodZ.com and he can get you .

Cheers!

We have a more complete and accurate NA->TT conversion information here:
http://upload.z1motorsports.co...n.pdf

It would be nice to replace the link at the top in your original post with this link. This link is in fact still on our website under the NA->TT conversion product listing.

Also, we aren't simply increasing the price of our NA to TT conversions we are simply adding more and more items to the standard conversion. We have to cover all our bases when performaing a swap.

Trust me.. you need more than a TT motor/tranny combo. You also need TT:
radiator, ECU, intercoolers, intercooler piping, most likely new turbos (jdm engine turbos are usually seized), TT or 9 jspec front bumper for air to get to intercoolers, new wiring harness and a bunch of other stuff. It's cheaper just to buy a TT!

Why does it cost that much,
you can find a site that sells the engine for 2000 (including the tranny)

and labor for maybe 1000
what else do you need.

All of these questions have already been answered earlier in this post. There is ALOT of stuff needed to do the swap, not just an engine and transmission. You need a new ECU, Intercoolers, piping, wiring, possibly turbos, downpipes, etc... Its all been addressed. Answering the same questions gets tiring.

Im not sure if this will help much. But im currently undergoing a 2+2 to TT swap myself and from about 2 weeks of researching day and night ive found the best route "If u dont have the nohow of a swap" would be to buy a 300zx TT front clip u can get it at Z1 with everything u need for 3000 plus shipping or u can go somewhere less reknown and get for around 1700-2000. Then its around 2000-2500 for installation. 5000 for one bad machine isnt to bad still a little pricey but better then 10000+ for a new car.

all you guys looking for clips -- send me an email with what you need/where you live..

keep in mind that automatic TT clips (what they sell at z1 and coz) are usually cheaper than a full manual half-cut which is usually what I get. From time to time I see some automatic clips and I can get them too if needed/wanted, usually about 800$ cheaper than a full manual front clip.
