That’s right, NICO has use of the Carlisle Fairgrounds autocross/drift courseduring the NICOfest Spring Meet at Carlisle Performance and Style on Saturday and Sunday. May 5-6. It’s open to all licensed NICOnauts 18 or older. Any make car, no special car requirements. The emphasis is on fun, and it’s free with admission to the Carlisle Performance and Style event. The number of runs will depend on the number of participants. But there should be plenty of time over the two days to get many laps in.

If you’re interested in drifting/autocrossing your own car while attending NICOfest, this is place to do it.

Here’s all you need:

Valid drivers license, be 18 years old or olderYour car will need to pass a simple tech inspection A crash helmet (SA95/ M95 or newer)Supply your name, make/model/yr car you’ll be driving, Whether you want to drift, autocross, or do both,Your level of autocross/drift experience, (novice or experienced).

Since this is a NICO event, we’ll need NICO volunteers to make it happen.Volunteers are all welcome to drive. Here are the areaswhere we’ll need your help:

Tech inspection: working a simple checklist, don’t need to be a mechanic.

Registration: Drivers need to register after passing tech, pretty striaght forward.

Time Keepers: for just the autocrossers.

Corner workers: for safety, picking up cones, watching for debris, spin outs, fluids, etc.

photographers: to post some shots on NICO.

Starter: In charge of safety, launches. Coordinates with corner workers. We have a primary starter, but will need at least one or two more. Some autocross experience preferred for this position.

Please respond to me on this thread. And let me know if you have any questions. We hope to have a big, fun, safe event.

You should check your local K-Mart parking lot.

Sure, hitting shopping carts and minivans make it more challenging.

Actually, this is a pretty sweet deal: legal, free, fun with spectators. I hope we get a huge turnout.

I'll be at this event, won't be able drive, but I'll help out with whatever I can.

Awesome. It's open to everyone with drift/autocross worthy vehicles that can pass tech. I'll publish those tech requirements soon. They're pretty straightforward. You're right, if it goes well, we might be able to do it again. If you'd like your friends to participate, please get them signed up on NICO and have them post on this thread so I can keep track.

Great, tech won't be complicated. I'm still working on the tech checklist but here's an idea of the requirements:

Engine compartment: no leaks, fluids ok, belts tight, throttle freeBrake fluid, full, preferably cleanBrake lights, signals operationalBrakes: have sufficient lining.Battery: mounted securelyWipers: functionalGas Cap: secureWheels, no free play, lug nuts torqued by tech personTires: no cuts, legal tread, no cord showing. No R-compounds for novicesInterior: loose items removed, floor mats removed, nothing in glove boxRestraints: standard seat belts okay, must be functionalTrunk: empty and latchedHelmet: SA 95/M95 or newerFire extinguisher – optional, but if they have it, has to be securely mounted

so, is there like a non-formal registration for the drifting? or is it anyone who wants to run, just sits in line?

are there any pictures of this place and where the course will be?

i think i will go, only 2 hours away from me

***EDIT***oops, just read the thread in the events section~so when we pay the $50 for the NICOfest registration, we get to drift?

Correct, There is no additional fee to do the drifting/autocross, but it's a little more than just pulling up in line and rock n'roll.

Once you get into NICOfest, you'll need go thru tech first. After you (drivers license and helmet) and your car passes tech, you'll go to registration, which will be located hopefully right beside the tech area. You'll get assigned a number and wristband (or hand stamp). You only need to go thru tech and register once. Then you can get in line and rock n'roll. I don't know the schedule yet for when the course is running autocross or drift, or if it'll be mixed. I'll pass that info on as soon I get it. The number of runs will depend on the number of participants, and assuming we can keep the course safely staffed. Remember NICO provides all staffing, and so volunteering is critical for our success.

I will need a list of who wants to particpate/volunteer but I think I can generate that list from the posts in this thread. I'll publish a summary as the event draws closer.

I'm sorry I don't have pics of the course. Perhaps there are some NICOnauts that have run on it before. I'm told the course is pretty good.

Well, you know I'll be entering for sure. This is awesome. I have always wanted to drift at carlisle. For last year I actually wanted to contact carlisle event organizers to see if I could put on a drift demo but I guess this takes care of that. Where do I sign up for this? I defenitely want a spot.

This is gonna RULE.

Guys, this is NICO's FIRST TRACK EVENT. The world is watching.

If you volunteer, PLEASE keep your word. I don't want to get there and find we don't have enough help.

This is gonna be a blast, I hope those of you who are considering being there will commit to attend.

p.s. There's gonna be a TON of other cool stuff going on as well!
