I'm looking for helmet to buy. I prefer open face design. But all the open face designs I have seen so far are for scooters and motorcycles and don't have snell rating.

Do you know any open face helmets with snell 2000 or 2005 rating?

Im looking for a helmet as well and I was wondering what Snell rating are necessary for autoX...I was hoping to buy a used one but all the ratings have me pretty confused...I know that different associations have different standards but what rating should I be looking for?

As far as just having ones to buy Im sure we have an advertiser or two, most places that sell racing equipment seems to have helmets as well, also check the manufactures website for deals...Bell[Racer Whole Sale open face as low as 109.99Discovery PartsSpeed Ware Motor Sports Arai helmets cost A LOT

If I recall from the research the newest ones come out a little later this year so If you can continue to borrow one it might be worth it...

There are tons of them out there. This is how I found mine.I first approached several friends who already own helmets that were using them for the same application I was doing, (so they had the right snell rating) and asked which make/model they preferred and why. After that I went to a store that sells a different brands of helmets. I ended up at "Driving Impressions", which are nice stores located at several eastern tracks. I got my head sized properly there. It also gave me a chance to try on a bunch of them to see what I liked and disliked. Once I decided on a make/model/size, I then went about hunting for the best price.I ended up with a Bell SR Pro II, full face without a visor but with an extra wide eye opening as I'm an eyeglass wearer. I bought it mail order through Racer Wholesale, and ended up just over $200. I'm very happy with it. (I bought it a few years ago, so I don't think they make that model anymore)

The comfort and features are more important IMHO than the brand. Simpson and Arai and Bell are all excellent makes. But helmets are like shoes. If they don't fit perfectly, it'll become annoying quickly. I have two recommendations.1. Don't skimp (Your brain may be your second favorite organ, but you have only one and it ain't replaceable)2. Never buy a used helmet.

Just my $.02. Happy hunting

http://www.racerwholesale.com/...d=143I bought the Simpson last fall and it is great. Good visibility and comfortable since you order by hat size. I noticed that the Discovery parts site is offering a free internal and external bag. The Simpson comes with an internal bag but not external. I had to buy one.

like bubba1 said "don't skimp" as one of his recommendations when buying a helmet. i've been using an M helmet for go-kart and auto x. i usually borrow my friends SA helmets when road racing. i've been waiting for this year to buy a new helmet SA2005. i was planning on buying an arai or sparco helmet. they cost around 1k. now i'm wondering why a bell helmet or g-force helmet would cost a few hundred dollars and offer the same protection? is it the name?

SOLOII allows M2000 and M2005, as well as SA2000 and SA2005. And for the rest of the year, M1995 and SA1995. SOLOI you'll need the SA ratings.

theoretically, any helmet with a SA2005 rating will offer maximum protection. If I had the cash, I'd buy Arai. But I don't. So Simpson, Bell, G-Force all fit the bill. G-Force makes a good inexpensive open-faced

im not sure why arai is so much, i know they have all these little bits and pieces so the helmet is more comfortable but that cant be worth $500 - $600 imo
