Welcome to NICO, crimsonm35.

An excellent information piece from you! Here is the information. Thanks again !
crimsonm35 wrote:I've read through many forums and search the internet, and everyone was saying that you can't add aux inputs to a non tech package M (I have a 2006 M35). I also own a 2005 Nissan Quest which I added 2 aux inputs to using the AAI-NIS from PAC Audio. I've read in serveral places that this unit does not work in the M's. Well I've got good news, it does as long as you know how to get power to the unit. The 12 pin Sat connector on the back on the main audio unit is the same in every Nissan/Infiniti so that plugs right in. I did have to cut off the pigback they were using to get ACC 12v power and spliced into the ACC off the back on the main audio unit (Pin 7 purple wire with two silver dots on the audio units 20 pin connector). The whole thing took maybe 20 minutes to install and works like a champ.

So now I have my iPod!!!!

My next project is to get to that nice display . But since I don't have the tech package or Nav, I can't use that Nav Hack. So I've got to get the pin out for the AV unit to see how to 'hack' into it. Lucky my Infiniti dealership has been pretty good about getting me the diagrams I need to do this stuff. The first thing I did to the car was to pull the stock speakers and install some real audio equipment.

BTW, If you do this please don't just splice into the first purple wire you see. There are several purple wires on that connector as well as the rest of the unit.
crimsonm35 wrote:I'm using the AAI-NIS and I'm not using a factory install Sat Radio. I've been talking with the PAC Audio tech support trying to find out if the NIS2 'functions' differently. I think that the NIS2 creates a third aux input that a factory Sat-Radio can pass-through on, but I don’t know if in doing that it prevents it from working on the M. I don’t know why it would. It has the exact same 12 pin plug as other Nissan’s.

Ok here are some images.

First remove the cup hold (it just pulls up)http://picasaweb.google.com/re...10002

Next remove the four screws holding in the middle tray and removehttp://picasaweb.google.com/re...65106

Now pull down on the shift cover and remove the u clip that holds the handle in placehttp://picasaweb.google.com/re...58162

Next pop up the shift lock coverhttp://picasaweb.google.com/re...50834

Press the shift lock and put shifter in to drivehttp://picasaweb.google.com/re...84818

Remove the two screws from the lower part of the radio face plate and removehttp://picasaweb.google.com/re...11602

Next remove the four screws, two on the top metal bracket and two way back about 2/3 the way down next to the CD changer(not visible in image), on the audio unit and CAREFULLY slide out. I recommend putting down a rag to not scratch up the metal trim.http://picasaweb.google.com/re...43122

Unplug the factor sat cablehttp://picasaweb.google.com/re...37842

I spliced into the ACC power on the Audio Unithttp://picasaweb.google.com/re...77202

Plug in the AAI-NIS and run audio cables to input device (iPod)http://picasaweb.google.com/re...85906

The AAI-NIS has plenty of room to sit underneath the audio unit. And that's it.

crimsonm35 wrote:The AAI-NIS2 is a little different. I've seen pictures. There should be two sets of wires and a RCA Right/Left, one set that goes to the 12 pin connector that plugs into the back of the audio unit (the male allows for factory sat radio and female plugs into radio). The other should have a single red wire that goes to a male/female 10 pin connector. That red wire is what requires 12v ACC power. (Turns the device on and off with the ignition switch)FYI, make sure you have the right purple wire. It is pin 7 on the 20 pin connector it should be a purple wire with two silver dots.xxxxxxxxxx09 08 07 06 05 04 03 02 0120 18 17 16 15 14 13 12 11 10 19

Thanks guys! szhosain I would like to do an article, but I don't know that I can provide a much higher level of detail than what is there. I really want to get one of those Nav Screen interfaces so I can hook up a DVD player or video iPod, but man are those things expensive.I've also built my own cold air intake ($50 in parts and a couple hours of time) and I'm working on a thermal coolant bypass of the upper plenum for the throttle body (keep the coolant out of the upper plenum, but still keep the TB warm). The cold air intake makes a huge difference. I've also added a skunk2 plenum spacer (didn't have the materials to make my own )I love to tweak stuff and the M is the ultimate car for that. Body, brains and braun. I think I've got it to a little over 300HP at the flywheel.

Okay, let me have one of our documentation guys (nchopp or d!ck) look at it and convert it to an article and get you in for the custom tag! It is really good stuff that you did there. Thanks!

That is impressive. Sounds like you have some significant experience in making these kinds of tweaks.

Awesome info, RP! Welcome aboard!

I'm eager to hear about the install of the plenum spacer on the M (I installed one on my G35)... and to see some pics of the beast!

Hope you enjoy what we have here for M owners.

The spacer was a breeze to put on and has really made a difference in the car. The only thing that worried me during the install was the six little spacer washers you have to place inside the plenum. I triple check to make sure they were on the bolts. With the intake and spacer it revs even faster, pulls harder and has a much deeper exhaust tone. It screams at 6K. Now I need that Stillen exhaust to get all that air out of the engine

Funny story from today.I was home today so my wife drove it to work and when she gets home she tells me the car scared her to death. She was merging into traffic and floored it trying to get in (it's a short on ramp), but didn't expect it to shift down hard and go screaming down the road. She looks at the speedo and she's doing 90+MPH. I think now she knows why I traded in my Mustang GT.

The only really issue I've had with it so far is that I had to get a radar detector . It is so quiet and smooth you can't tell you're going 85 or 90. And it loves to run at 80-85 right at 3K.

I'll get some pics up... but it's nothing exotic, still total stock on the outside.

BTW is there a way to change usernames? I would like crimsonm35 if possible. I've moved on from the Mustang days.

Yes, it can be done (if the name is available)! I will get an Admin to change it ... if you are unable to log in later as redpony, please try crimsonm45. If you have any difficulty, please send me e-mail through my profile and I will help out.

Yes if you get an iPod dock of some sort. Like the Griffen TuneCenter or the DLO HomeDock Deluxe. I don't think iPod display anything but movies and pictures when you just connect them via the AV jack. No information on the songs or menus to navigate with. You can just connect it to the rear AV connectors, but if you want to view it on the front screen while driving you would have to do the NAV Hack that is dicussed on many of the forums.

Can someone explain how they are switching the source to the IPOD? The install is for a non-tech M and non-sat. If you are plugging the adapter into the Sat connector on the back of the radio what are you pressing on the radio to access that source?

Does the 2006 have a SAT button even though you don't get SAT radio? I have an 2007 and would love to do this by I have 2007 M35 Sport Non-Tech.

ThanksJeff

You just hit the Radio button. The 350Z, G35 and M35/45 don't have a SAT button. The Radio button toggles from FM/AM/SAT. Then you hit the A/B/C selector (only A and B have inputs) to change sources on the PAC Audio device.

Unfortunately, if you want to add aux inputs (and don't have the Tech Package) you will have to tear into your car a litte. If that isn’t something you are comfortable with any good car audio place should be able to install it for you. The device that does this is made by PAC-Audio and you are looking for the AAI-NIS2. This device makes the factor head unit think there is a satellite radio installed and takes the audio signal from the AAI-NIS2. You will need to let the car audio place know that the plug in for the power (red wire) will have to be cut and spliced into the head units power. I have images and instructions on all of the at the top of this post.

Here is a link to PAC-Audio Aux Inputshttp://www.pac-audio.com/produ...Input

Good Luck

I have an 07 M45 sport with xm sat/nav/tech pkg. No adv tech pkg. What exactly do I need to play IPOD audio thru the stock system? I thought the system came with the ability to connect MP3 players, at least that's what the brochure said! If I get a video IPOD can I play video thru the front screen?

tks and great forum
