transmission faults? 97 max how do I pull the codes?
6:18 PM 12/5/2006
Today when I started my 97 maxima se automatic the O/D off light flashed after I started the car for like 10 seconds . I assume this means there is a tranny sensor or related trans fault. It has also one two or three occassions jerked a little bit when coming off the gas before the car warms up completely almost like it was about to run out of gas. Does anyone know how to read out tranny codes?
TIA Kevin

The instructions to pull the codes are found in the 6th thread down for the 4th gens. How to find out what your code means can be found in either the 4th or 7th thread.
If you have any questions about the codes, just post back.

Thanks, but these instructions are for pulling ecu codes. I am trying to pull transmission control module faults. Most people think it can only be done with consult, but I believe there is a way to activate a self test which will flash codes from the tranny module and have them flashed through the O/D off light in the cluster. Instructions are supposed to be on maxima.org, but that website will not let me use the search even after I log in... ARGH!
When I used to do the drop resistor mod at the track (when I ran), I could still pull the code at the end of the night through this process (with only the O/D light flashing).
do you mean by twisting the screw on the ecu? I have already read out my ecu and I had only a knock sensor code which I just replaced and cleared the codes. Are you talking about using the screw on the ecu to enter self diagnostic mode or am I misunderstanding?
BTW does anyone know why maxima.org doesn't let me use the search function, when I am already logged in?
Thanks so much. I have a 94 Q45 that I bought from the auction with a transmission malfunction light. Luckily it was just a revolution sensor. That car had the service manual in it when I bought it which was sweet. Anyways I hope this is also something easy. On the Q the light was intermittent so I had to learn the self test procedure and do it over and over until I caught it. My 97 240 is stick so my fiance cant drive it, and of course the 240 is super reliable. But I always have problems with her car and then I can't trade cars with her. Gotta put the Q back together after new radiator support. Anyways, I will pull tranny codes tomorrow and post findings. Thanks again!
