Okay so I've had this 1989 240SX Coupe since 1997. At first it was just an every day car for me to get to and from work. I got stationed overseas with the military from 1998 until now, and my car has been in storage the whole time. Ever since I saw the movie (you know the one), I've been interested in the possibility that I could do something like that to my 240.

I'm a complete rookie. Don't know jack about the Japanese car scene, but would love to modify my car to beeing the ultimate 240. I want to max out the car with all of the best parts so that it has the most horsepower that it can have, and at the same time be absolutely beautiful. I will be buying parts here and there to reach my goal. I don't have the cash to just go out and buy everything I would need all at once. The military don't pay like that.

I would love any suggestions and advice you could all give me.

I would recomend an rb26dett i think thats probably the best engine you coudl get in there unless you did a built sr20det or build up a ka24de as much as possible and turbo that all those are good if you want power,As looks go do some 18x9 or 18x9.5 in the back and then 18x8 or 9 in the front and roll the fenders in the back i think that looks awesome,If i were you i would do the s13 front triple projectors with the bomex grille in between them.Check out the Work s1 wheels those are awesome looking. And do aluminum one piece driveshaft and then interior wise go for what you like.David

All I can say is RESEARCH before you do anything. Spend countless hours reading around NICO, and use the knowledge of others to make your own decisions. Before you buy a damn thing, make sure you are familiar with all possible options.

Building a tuned car is not easy. Ive been in the 'scene' since I was like 11, constantly reading magazines, forums, books, etc.

The first thing I would do is subscribe to a few import mags. Some I can reccomend are Sport Compact Car, Modified, Super Street (havent read in a while, it got really old) and start familiarizing yourself with the scene in general. From there, get to reading NICO about specific things that you search for. If you have any questions from there, feel free to post up questions in the forums. However, questions as general as these should be avoided. Good luck with the build, take your time and most of all enjoy your car.

your thread title is an oxymoron.

you've got quite a dream, but you'll just need to stick around and absorb as much information as you can.

having the best 240sx isn't as simple as 1+4+6=11. there are very many options to best suit your goal. you will have to search for precisely what you want out of the car. when you come up with some options, then decide for yourself with the help of the search button. you don't really need a thread for something like this, but hopefully what i said will point you in the right direction. good luck and welcome to nico.

here is a suggestion, dont make another dumb post!... i mean seriously what do you want people to tell you? if you want the most hp swap in a v8 or 2j.. another suggestion search man!!! we got all the Information in the WORLD about 240s here. But i think this post is lame... "i watched fast and the hideous and now i wanna be a tyte jdm racer drifter, I wanna max my car out with all the pimpest mods" there is not a set combination to have a great 240 just read, learn, see others and do tasteful mods that you like.

There's a new magazine called Project Car, the first issue was just released, half of the board liked it the other half didn't. My copy is sitting on my bed unread so far, it shows how to do an SR swap. Keep your eye on that, it might end well. It's "Real people, real cars, real budgets" or something.A very reputable shop in Florida does RB26DETT swaps for 15grand, so if you want the ultimate machine, be prepared to pay for it.

Everybody just chill, its not THAT bad of a thread. Ive seen much worse.

Again, take your time, sit back, and watch what others do. Generally, NICO rides are very clean, well executed, go-over-show type cars. Feel free to take our cars as examples and start to form your own ideas.

As a side note, people really hate arbitrary, general threads. Get used to it, people obviously have enough time to redicule every thread that isnt Godly. The best advice I can give is just hang out on the boards for a while and get used to the proper etiquette around here. Youll pick it up in no time. Welcome though, youll find great information, and the SEARCH button is your best freind.

To the OP,welcome to NICO. All I can say is research as much as you can. Use this site to gather info, plan things out, look at other cars to draw inspiration from, etc. etc. If you search for something and can't find it...then post a thread about it.

It doesn't hurt to have big dreams for your car, but you gotta put in work if you want that dream to come true. Save up and make sure you've got the money to do what you want to do. Make sure you are organized and keep track of how much you spend because if you don't...things get messy.

Aside from researching, I would recommend you drive your car as often as you can. (yes I know you're in the military so when you get the chance) Enjoy it in its stock form and get to know it better. Get a feel for its handling and such.

Once you get everything planned out and you feel ready to work on your car...my suggestion is to start like this:

1) performance mods2) interior mods3) exterior mods

Work on the inside first and gradually make your way outside.

Well with that all said and done...

Good luck with everything.

Good advice topless, youre one of the few knowledgable people left on here.

Going with the above post, dont just mod your car because the money is burning a hole in your pocket. Get used to the car in stock form, and try to identify areas in which it needs to be improved. Especially with handling mods, go one at a time so you can feel the differance that each individual parts makes. Its easy to slap a whole bunch of paint on a canvas, but true art is extensively thought out. Again, take it slow, and only install parts that will actually make a positive differance.

Show me where I have needed to use the search button.Link me to where I have double posted ONCE.

Nice way to try and spoof a movie quote that doesn't apply to the situation.

yessir, btw. I saw where you had corrected yourself in the last thread, one I was talking about. I guess I get over offended when people talk bad to newbies, it's a very sensative spot for me. I apologize for over reacting I guess, but I still would like for you to point out where I had double posted, needed an edit, etc.

We need a budget to even begin to suggest crap because you'll never have the fastest 240SX. My suggestion would be take out a fat loan, take the car to Hinson Supercars, and then Full-Race and tell them both to do their thing.

Then hit it with a bat and let Pimp My Ride install 20 TVs and 2 18inch subwoofers. 8-)

welcome to nico Brozif, hope you stick around, this site is excellent, as long as you dont ask a oft asked question . anyway, im assuming your car has very few miles on it, but still, make sure it is properly maintaned, and in the best condition it can be in stock for. replace worn out parts, and parts that are getting weak. Then figure out what you want, since you cant be the best at everything. use the site to find out what parts are in the most dire need of being replaced. find a good suspension, and upgrade your brakes. once your cars handling and stopping ability are improved, then go at the engine. most people here, myself included, tend to not like the rediculous body kit designs, and most as stated earlier prefer go to show, but whatever floats your boat. hope that helps

Well, it's nice to see you here. There isn't alot of flaming here, it's def. alot better than most of the other forums, but there are some people here who still do and wont be named, not talking about yessir either. You can tell who it is if you post here often though.

Ay man, not taking sides or anything, just pointing out that he's talking about post numbers 8 and 9 in this thread.

To the OP, figure out who you are and what you want before you ask for opinions. Unless you have set your mind, and you ask an opinion, you will be strayed from what you love deep down inside and later on there is a good chance that you will regret it.

The most important piece of advice anyone can give you is:"Whatever you do, do it for you, not for anyone else."

Because if you don't love what you do to your car, what is the point of doing it?
