Murano Road Noise or Hidden Problem

I bought a 2004 Murano SL with 20000 miles on it. I love it, except from the noise I hear and feel when I drive it. The service folks put their best mechanic with me for a ride and he is someone who used to work on my old Pathfinder that I really liked too. Unfortunately, he said it was the tires. This one has the Goodyear Eagles that come with the Murano. The noise is not there all the time, but I am having a hard time believing it is road noise from the tires. It sounds like the brakes grinding but the brakes are fine. It it not the bearings either or so they tell me. I replaced my 1998 4Runner with this and it beats the 4Runner in comfort, but I have to say the 4Runner was quiet. I have only put 270 miles since I got it and the noise is driving me to get rid of it. I am hoping someone else had the same problem or is it true it is the tires or it is just the way it is for all 2004 Muranos. Thank you

What tire inflating are you running. if your running upwards of 40, you could try decreasing it a little....

Hello

I have a 2003 Murano w/ 40K and it's great except for a noise coming from the rear-passenger wheel. This noise opnly occurs when I'm braking very lightly and at a very slow speed (5MPH). The noise is a crackling sound. Hit the brakes hard and I don't notice the noise.
At first, I thought it was my brakes - had those serviced and no change.

I've had my local service guy look at it twice thinking it was bad brakes. They found nothing.

You described your issue as a brake issue - what does the noise sound like and when does it occur. If these sound like the same symptons, what did you do to fix it

thanks
Mark

I know it's probably too late, but you need to check for the old 350Z nemesis - tire feathering. Are the insides of the tread on the fronts "cupped"? Run your hand along the inside top of the tire in one direction and then back in the other - smooth going one way and notchy going the other? Noise most noticeable slowing down on smooth blacktop?

Check it out.

I am having noise problems with my 03 and I too am told it is tires that have worn unevenly. In this case Michelins. I did not have problems with the Eagles.

That is the exact problem I am having with the Michelins but I am not sure why.

Good 1st post, Ronny.

OP, do check for feathering, and if you've got it, it's only going to get worse. (Sorry.) My 350Z has it, bad. The cure, which I haven't taken yet, is new tires, then an alignment to the new specs on Hunter equipment. I figure that since my tires probably only have another 5000 miles left in them, I'll just deal with the noise. No point in getting the alignment now, as the feathered tires will just beat the alignment back out of shape. Good luck.
