Despite a tepid reaction to the next-generation Nissan Sentra, the new Sentra is significant improvement on the current model. Maybe these latest spy photos of the 2008 Nissan Sentra SE-R will cheer Nissan fans up a little.

Even with the taped up front and rear ends it's clear the SE-R will get typical high-performance mods like a deeper front air dam, rear deck spoiler and extended sills.

Bigger wheels and tires add some muscle to its stance, and just in case you're still in doubt about the authenticity of this prototype there's a close up of one of the heavy-duty brake calipers and its "SE-R" lettering.

What’s under the hood? We’ll likely have to wait until next year but it will have to have at least 200-hp to compete with the Civic Si, GTI, etc.

And, some pics of the "concept" - Looks like it will be somewhat sportier than the car revealed at the Detroit Auto Show...

I really like it, in one of the shot it reminds me of the new IS series.

Id rock the new Sentra no doubt.

I dunno doesn't look bad, but as far as it being sporty..."high-performance mods like a deeper front air dam, rear deck spoiler and extended sills."so it gets a little more air into the engine bay, and a rear spoiler which is probably barely in air flow and thats high-preformance?

I hope thats a rear caliper? cause "the heavy-duty brake calipers" sure look a hell of a lot like single pot. floating calipers?

So did Nissan meet with the Toyota design team and not inform anybody about it? I'm sorry, but that car looks awful. It reminds me of Dolly Parton. Very topheavy...

I think the Altima SE-R's ahve similar brakes; I was disappointingly surprised aswell.

theres nothing wrong with the single pot's!!! The G35s use them and they have great brakes!!

As long as the car doesnt fall apart like the older ones like to do, it will be reasonable, however i think they sould drop the line and start fresh with something else, much like dodge did with the neon!

Yeah, I'm thoroughly unimpressed. Unless there's something tremendous going on under the hood, I don't think I'll be buying a Sentra any time soon.

Anybody else notice that it's 5-lug?

I'm not the biggest fan of the new Sentra appearance wise. The Maxima styling just doesn't work on a small car.I really don't like the proportions of contemporary small cars. I liked it better when they looked like miniaturized big cars, like the B13. This stubby and tall with tiny wheels thing really needs to go away.

Yeah. It'd rock if Nissan built an Si killer though. Just imagine a factory turbo 2 liter with well-designed suspension and a tasteful aero kit.
