wow..what kind of jacks was he using?its hard to mess up jacking up a car..

rest in peace is definitely correct.and let this be a lesson for people who are using lifting jacks to support the car while working under it..

always use jackstands on appropriate locations and always test by shaking!!

that f*cking sucks.. wow.

daing, that really sucks. i always use jack stands just in case. my friend was workin underneath a car and the jack started to come down on him while he was underneath, he slid out partially but the break dust shiled kinda nicked him and cut his face a lil. he was lucky.

sorry to hear that and may he RIP

That's horrible.... I'm sorry you had to be the one to find him, too.

My bf's friend just cracked a few ribs recently by a civic hatchback falling off the jacks onto him.

Don't you have lifts at your shop? I'd rather use a lift than jacks any day.

DEFINITELY start using jack stands. I can't tell you how many times I've read, on various forums, about people getting killed when a car falls off the jack.

I always use jackstands and a huge rubber chock behind a wheel just to make sure the car doesn't roll around when I don't want it to.

Jackstands are cheap and it only takes a few seconds to get 'em under your car.

man that makes me feel all the luckier. I was changing my starter on my 89 240 and I had was the stock tire change jack to keep the car up. I was under the car trying to get out one of the bolts and I had somebody helping get the other bolt from up top out. Man, I could feel that car wiggle around on my chest. I was almost scared to dump in my pants. jack-phobia is definetly justified...

I used ramps today when i was putting my short throw shifter in, it felt alot more stable than jacks or jackstands.

I'm sorry about what happened to your friend.

You have to watch out what ramps you use too. Some of the older metal ones without braces can give way and flatten out, especially if they have rust on them. Personally I use jackstands, and the jack all together and remove the lever from the jack.

I did use cinder blocks at work fixing a truck and we forgot to take them out before we lowered the truck (C2500) and it smashed the bricks into little pieces. I'll never do that again.

id hve to say its common knowledge to use jackstands.

changing out a tire or something, you can use the scissors jack the car comes with.. of course, changing out a tire doesnt require much time.

even with jackstands, the car im working on right now (xg350L, mom's alt is bad..).. i lifted the pass. side and its wobbley.so i put a jack underneath to support as well as the rim/tire i took off the car to work on it..

i dont want to die a horrible death getting crushed by the cars i love working on..thats just sad

I had my car fall on me once when I was putting a jackstand in, luckily i was under the side of the car, just past the framerail (on an accord) and the rocker panel just hit my head. It hurt like hell, but at least I didnt get crushed. RIP and condolences to family and friends of what sounds to be a really cool dude.

RIP and my condolence to his family. I leave the jack under the car with jackstands on both sides unless its in the way. And if it is I usually have 4 jack stands. Safety first. Never want anything to go wrong. Examples= Earthquakes, some fool messes with the car, improper locations for jack/stands, so on. Be safe so you can ride another day.

Damn Smurf - I had the same thing happen to me...

I was taking the front coil springs out of my 68 GranSport... was gonna lower it. Had a day off school, no one was home, garage all to myself.

Under the car using a picklefork and a sledge to crack the balljoints loose and the jack gave out.

Car creaked, dropped... My head was between the framerail and the inner footwell... Frame hit my chest, bounced...

Thought it crushed my ribs but after I regained my senses, I realized it was the *perfect* position... I could only take little breaths, thought I was gonna pass out, couldn't move pinned under the frame.

Once I realized I was "OK" (bruised ribs and sternum, a cut on my scalp, and a big goosegg on my eyebrow), I laid there for 2 hours until my best friend showed up after school.

Wanna see a scared 18-year old? NEVER again.

Jackstands (sometimes more than necessary) and the jack at ALL TIMES.

Nope - skinny.

The car bounced on its suspension, but not before crushing my chest...

If I weighed then what I weigh now, I may not have made it.

Scary as hell.

that kinda of stuff is scary, i am constantly working on cars under stands, but even with jack stands or lifts stuff can go wrong. its all about knowing how to use the equipment and maintainning it well. ive heard a stroy about a shop owner that has been a mechanic for 20+ years getting crushed under a lift, all becuse he didnt want to shell out 6k for a new lift.
