I'm looking for cost effective brake upgrades for my g50 1995 q45. I need to stop a 4,000 lb car from 100-120mph (possibly 150) multiple times for time attack on a race track. The stock brakes with upgraded pads will crack and overheat at some point. I need something better. please post a link if you know of something.

thanks!

R32 GTR brakes are probably the best bang for the buck,

Personally I'd go with the Akebono 14", plus the calipers are massive...scroll down for pics. Not cheap though, over $2k.

Do you have more info on those gtr brakes?

the infiniti brakes are far too pricey for me as I need to budget for tires, wheels, oil coolers, suspension, seat and harness....

is there a more performance oriented g50 forum you could perhaps point me to?

Any brake upgrade for the Z32 or 1989-93 R32 GTR or later R33 will work for the G50.

Right now I'm running the R32 GTR front brakes using hawk pads and EBC rotors. The rotor size is 294x32mm vs 280x28, but the pad swept area and piston size is smaller. From the calculations its about the same theoretical braking force as stock, but in reality more of the force is transferred with a fixed caliper vs a floating/sliding. Just be warned the rotors are special order and will take awhile to get. These calipers use the Z32 brake calipers so choice is plentiful, and the conversion lines are also the same.

The last option is using Evo 8/9 brembo using an adapter for the 300zx. I'm not sure that I like the adapter that much since it looks a bit flimsy.

I did take my car to Laguna Seca last year with the stock brakes and of course they were the weakest link. They work fine for the first couple of corners, but by the last corner they were fading bad. I've since put the R32 brakes on and they are definitely better at high speed stops, but I can't say as far as fade since I haven't been to the track yet.

nice, thanks for the info. looks like im going to go with some brembo blanks or slotted z32 rotors and z32 30mm calipers, front and back. now what is the better choice in caliper, aluminum or cast iron? do the aluminuim calipers have a tendency to break or fatigue?

The aluminum calipers are much lighter... other than that I can't add anything. I don't think the caliper material has much if anything to do with fatigue or even reliability.
So in short I'd get aluminum if I had the choice.

No really there is no difference, one is just cheaper than the other to manufacture. As far as I know the Z32 is may not be an "upgrade" unless you go for full race pads. The R32 makes up for the smaller piston area by increasing the size of the rotor by 14mm and thickness by 4mm. They might be less prone to fade, but I don't have any experience with the Z32.

At a minimum if you run out of money for the brakes I would suggest Axxis metal master pads under the Beck Arnley name from rock auto for the stock calipers. They are ~$25 for the front and ~$17 the last time I bought them. These were the pads I ran at laguna seca. They were actually quite surprising.

I went ahead and got a full set of aluminum 30mm z32/r32 calipers for front and back. I also ordered a set of discounted powerslot brand rotors for $30-40 each online. Im not a fan of drilled rotors, they tend to crack, but the price is right. and I am going to use a second set of hawk hp+ pads i had laying around for my subaru wrx. the 2007 wrx or jdm 90's sti used the same pads as the z32/skyline. I used these at autocross, and never experianced brake fade even from several 135-0 mph stops. and they grab so hard (HUGE DIFFERENCE OVER ANY STREET PAD) and tear the rotors up, plus make amazing race car noises. haha. so i think they will be better than the stock pads.

Hello all,

I have a set of (F & R) aluminum Z32 calipers and Z33 Brembo calipers. I could probably source a set of R33 GTR calipers if need be. My 95 G50 is my daily, no track use, and I have 18" wheels with HUGE brake clearance. I don't *need* an upgrade, but would like to confirm a direct fitment. I don't want to increase the weight any more than absolutely necessary. The Brembo's are on the shelf whereas the Z32 calipers are installed on another car at the moment (non running S14)

What's the straightforward/easiest, lightest direct fit without adapter brackets, shims, etc?
