UPDATE 7/10/17:

Emails have started to go out asking for initial deposit...we are progressing...

UPDATE 6/12/17:

We sent off the list containing the contact info for the 20 interested parties to SoulFunction. The ball has started rolling.

UPDATE 6/7/17:

We have reached the 20 person minimum needed to place the order so hopefully everyone comes through and we get this thing made! Just in time for my birthday :D.

========================

Howdy folks,

A user (Adam F.) on the FB M/Q group has reached out to a vendor called SoulFunction about possibly creating a front strut bar for the Y50 chassis M (06-10) (update: it's been made and is being sold - link). For those who don't know what a front strut bar is, it's a brace that attaches to both strut towers in the engine bay and provides a bit of rigidity for the chassis which in turn helps keep the car more level/planted/firm in cornering. It's a worthwhile mod. The problem, up until now, is that the only company that ever made such a bar for the Y50 M wanted like $450 for the part which is INSANE. It should cost no more than like $200, max. That's exactly the price point of the SoulFunction bar (which is currently being made for the Infiniti G guys). It's actually $206 per their site.

Anyway, in that conversation I inquired as to the possibility of making this product for the Y51 guys (2011+). They responded to CRV_33 that they would.

We'd need 20 people to put down $75 each (and remainder when product is done) to get this done. I am currently not sure if they will need a test mule to go out to their building in Minnesota, but I think CRV is real close and he has the V8, so the V8 guys should be taken care of (lol).

I figured I'd put the word out for the community in case anyone was interested. CRV_33 will assist in keeping this thread list going.

Here is a picture of the front strut bar installed on an M45:

========================

Add your name to the list if you are interested. Please only add your name if you are genuinely interested at the $200 price point...we don't need people who will flake out. This sounds like one of the best opportunities as far as a company who is actually responding and working with the community (unlike R2C who is basically ignoring our guys now and hasn't released the intake).

Thanks Ilya for making this thread. This is a local company that is willing to make the front strut bar if there is any interest. If we can show that there are is there a demand for suspension components, i'm sure they can make other items like the rear tie bar and etc.

Once we reach our goal of 20 spots please be sure to have the payment of $75 ready so that Soul Function can move onto the next phase.

For now if you are interested in a front strut bar please follow the following format: Name, Year, Engine, and your email address.

^^This is what it should look. Please follow the format so that Soul Function, Ilya, and myself can stay in contact with you during this procecss.

Am I being "that guy" if I say I like the strut bar but don't like the color scheme? Lol. It doesn't go with my car :frown:

My only concern on the V8 is that you can see where the engine cover already rubbs on the underhood insulation. Really feel you would have to lose the cover to add the brace.

Someone on FB mentioned running it in front of the cover...so it would look like more of a \____/ shape (if looking down, vertically, at the engine bay).

I know that was a concern when I was fitting my GT Spec strut bar, so I changed out my engine cover to a carbon fiber one that sits lower, so no rubbing issues. Haven't seen a carbon fiber one for the V8, small consolation for the VQ guys with less power...lol

Ya'll may want to see pics of my FTSB (front tower struc bar) in the What Did You Do to Your M37/M56/Q70 Today? thread. I changed the color of mine with Duplicolor Metalcast and repainted the strut mounts too. Thought it came out pretty boss...

They don't make the GT Spec any more, but some of the G37 guys get rid of them when selling their rides and going back to stock, that's where I picked up mine.

This bar looks identical to the GT spec bar. Same mount/bracket shape and bar profile. Just painted differently- looks nice IMO

I'm in. However is there a way to hide emails? Or does someone want to hold my deposit? I'm not too comfortable with my email floating on the internet.

No worries, I'm the same way. That being said, I'd assume the people organizing this can just PM you when the time comes so as long as you monitor your PMs, I don't think they need the email until then.

**UPDATE 01/31/17**

The two owners from Soul Function came over this past weekend and did an inspection of the engine bay for the V8. They also brought some test brackets and strut bars for test fitment. From talking it over with them they are interested in moving forward with this project but its contingent on the demand for this product. They took a lot of photographs and will continue the R&D on their end. They will contact myself and someone with an M37 to stop by their shop soon for more fitment to advance this development.

That is to be determined. We need to gauge interest first (hence the list name) but we dislike 'flakes' so unless you are willing to pony up the cash down the road up to, say, $350-400 with 100% certainty...it's better to hold off on adding your name to the list. Nothing worse than getting a list of 20 'interesteds' only to have all 20 back out because of money at the end.

I'm sure you understand :).

Well I hope we can get to our goal of 20 soon. I'm very interested in the look and possible hp improvement with this mod.

Just based on other cars. Ours could be different due to variable x, y, z, c, b, a d, e, l, m, etc.

The Y50 ones weren't $350-400, but my point was that people need to have money for this and not back out last minute.
