Okay, before I get into the specifics of this battle I want to give a little bit of background information. Over the past 3 years I spent all my time and money building up my 240sx to be a daily driver on 300whp and make it look really clean. During this time I had a motorcycle to use whenever the car was down for mods etc... My brother also had a bike but one day I was unfortunate enough to be hit by a car that decided to ignore two lanes of traffic and smashed into me and 3 other cars. Scared that my brother might one day endure a similar fate I tossed him the keys to my 240sx and he couldn't be happier.

However, I am looking to buy a 350z and want to make sure that my 350z will be able to dust my former 240sx. My budget isn't limitless though I'm willing to drop the money to turbocharge the car. I'm not looking for overkill or to be able to go chasing after z06's, I just want to be able to beat my brother in the 1/4 and a 20mph - 100mph race. So I'm not very familiar with the vq35 series but from what I've read so far the HR is the way to go and going beyond 8psi generally leads to rods making a bid for freedom. Like my old 240sx I want to build the car to be a daily driver and run off of 93 octane pump gas (I know 100 octane is the best choice but please bear with my desires for 93 octane gas).

So I humbly approach you all to help me best my brother with MY OLD CAR!!!
(some of the mods are listed in my signature)

I know my brother plans to run a higher boost with a dyno tune whenever we race and I'm sure he's going to beef up the car even more while I'm shopping for my Z so for the sake of the race let's assume the car (weighs 2650lbs - a driver) will make 350rwhp. Help me win!

-Colin

Unless he can't get traction you'll probably lose. You'll probably need, suspension, brakes, better tire and wheel combo, and probably a turbo set up would be your best bet to out run a 350+hp s chassis.

Someone else would probably be more knowledgeable. Why not just beef up thr suspension and take them both to a road course.

Because I know my brother wouldn't want to try and take me on the track. He'd want to just do a highway roll race and call it a day.

Tell him street racing is illegal, dangerous, and gives small children AIDS.

You need to remember with mantra:

'It's easy to make a light car fast. It's much harder to make a fast car light"

You're going to run into problems with the lightness of the S-chassis, especially if all you're interested in is a straight line race. Just go buy some kid a case of Coors Light to let you borrow his SRT-4 for an hour or so you can beat your brother.* I prefer the Zen of a balanced car.

*No, I'm not serious, but my point is that's it's easy to build a cheap single purpose car.

I understand all of this, however I'm looking to spend up to $9k on mods so I feel that I should be able to do something to take him on.

Those sr20's sure do pull a premium one week before racewars.

Unless you'e planning on getting a 2007 or 2008 Z (Stronger updated, beefier motors) i would suggest getting a supercharger kit, you might be a sucker for boost now but a supercharged Z will absorb some of the wallet damage that a turbo build could give you. I.E. the amount of rebuilding that needs to be done for a boosted vq. Plus it is plenty fast and nothing thats overkill.

You'd be surprised how decent a stock 350z is at first though..it performs well for a porker. :yesnod

So I've got to thank Colbol89 for giving me an idea that got me thinking for a while...how would I spend $9K.

Guess I should let everyone else take part in this. :)

How would you spend $9K on your Z?

See everyone at the parts counter!

Funny, your post sounds like jealousy.

Next time I'm over Raleigh way I'll let you know so you can show off your 20 year old "classic", better yet you can can come to NICOFest at Tail of the Dragon since it's not a far drive for you.

In the meantime, if you troll here again and I'll give you a week to shop for some brake pads and work on your timing chain rattle (or any other issues you're having).

Maybe if you weren't such a dumbass, you would understand that I was referring to street racing as ricer antics. Gotta love forums with ignorant mods. Jealous of what? lol a 350z? Guess I should have listed my daily driver in my profile as well, bone stock 04 G35 coupe 6MT. tootles
