As Per Dan K (AKA 2008alticoupeDan) :hitit:

~*~ THIS IS NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH THE LEARND'D CREW ~*~

Image

“All great films, without exception, contain an important element of No Reason. And you know why? Because life itself is filled with No Reason… Ladies, gentlemen, the film you’re about to see today is an homage to the No Reason, that most powerful element of style.”
- RUBBER -

 (in short, skip to bottom of post...or sit there and read the epic story because it's about to get real)

On February 14th, in the year of 2003 a star lit the sky ablaze which came crashing down in front of me. The heavens rained down, in a glorious ball of fire, which was perfect because I was out of matches for my campfire which I really wanted because I love smores.

For starters, I don't even know why I was outside because it was like 20 below and I totally could have been inside watchin' a movie, but I digress...

That night, the heavens opened in front of me (that's two times this day!!) and there stood the archangel Tyrael who stepped out before me. AND HE SAID "Andrew, thou hastened the illest of the hellaflush guardians! I foresee your future with plenty of whispering eyes ;) and thou needeth the mightiest of steeds to reign supremacy across the land! So I said, DaFUUUUUUUUUUQ, He then said " Now, thou shalt bendith over for thou shalt feel what owning a Nissan truly feels like"...and on this day, I lost my v-card in the fiery flames of an archangle's lovin. Anyways...

FASTFORWARD 8 Years...78,000miles, Injen CAI, Strut Tower Bar, Motegi MR7's with P245/45ZR17's, LED Bulbs (like 3) 1 transmission rebuild, new clutch, MAF sensor, IAT sensor, Knock Sensor, Who's There Sensor, 2 sets of tires, 5 brake jobs (including 5 calipers), e-brake lines, 4 ball joints, 2 tie rods, sway bar links, fart can, Radiator support, 2 sets of spark plugs, new tail light, and a check engine light in a palm tree. (many repairs...yay)...Oh my goodness, I almost forgot...lots of that lovely NY Weight Reduction...RUST!!!!!

One week in the month of December of 2011...on a Monday...I was put into a ditch by some dirt bag driver who stopped, looked, then left. Bent up my passenger front fender and chunked the front bumper which consequently blew a hole in my washer reservoir. Left the car home on Tuesday to repair damages. Wednesday night, coming home from work (same week now) some dude fell asleep and found my rear bumper...at 65-70mph...I WAS going about 25-30mph BEFORE he hit me. Smashed up my passenger rear fender and tail light. Honestly only heard a loud bang and noticed my RPMs were screaming as I was in 3rd gear (Car is a tank!). Drove the car home cuz all damage was aesthetic. Needless to say, a week later the car was deemed totaled...but I kept the car.

Image

Now I know what you're all thinking (if you've actually read this far)...Why keep it? It's rusty and broken...
Three reasons...
1. Already paid off and ran alright
2. Needed winter car cuz Mazdaspeed3
3. Most importantly...Because Racecar.

Being that the car owes me NOTHING, I felt it was only right to spare its life and give back. She needed some body work and a new Radiator support among other things. Had some time this January and took care of the rad support...and started the StreetCred transformation.

ENJOI. I love you all...that have read this far.

Yes, it was meant to be operAtion, but at 1:30am...on a Friday...one loses the ability to spell. Miraculously, after it was posted I noticed it and corrected the mistake but apparently not quickly enough. My apologies. :bash:

Wait wait wait wait wait wait.

Wait.

You need a "winter car" alternative to a FWD compact? I am CONFUSED. I'm pretty sure the MS3 is the textbook definition of "winter car."

It was a nice looking Gen4.
I miss those days...but due to Rochester, NY and their overuse of road salt...it caught the rust.
There MAY be about 1/2 to 3/4 of an entire rocker panel on the car (adding both sides), replaced both front fenders, semi-fixed the damaged rear fender via hammer, porta-power, and a 4x4 then sprayed it with truck bed liner because it too started rusting. The reason the Radiator Support replacement happened was because it rusted out and in 2 pieces. (Repair led to the birth of Operation: StreetCred)

So because of the salt I refuse to drive my MS3 in the winter.
Although, 270hp, 280ft/lbs torque and 17psi of boost would make some sweet FAILwheel Drive Burnouts!!! :rotflmao
I'd rather beat on a 240SX or RX8 in the winter.

Ahhh, yeah, salt's evil stuff. They don't use it around here--something everyone else is quick to complain about and something I wholeheartedly support. More careful driving > rust.

Although, that may be true, there are other alternatives that are less damaging.
Some parts of NY use sand...yes, it's messy and is anything but helpful in terms of moving parts (i.e. Bearings, Rotors, etc.)
Studded Snows also work well. They are horrendous for dry roads but if people are scared of snow then they should get some.
Other alternatives...Ashes, Kitty Litter, or Calcium Chloride (most of these one would use at home but why not try on roads)
I've never owned a set of snow tires ever. If people just take their time and not drive like idiots they'd be fine.

I do agree, safe driving is better than rust...but some people don't have the luxuries of purchasing another car when their other one becomes "unfit/unsafe" to drive at no real fault of their own. The Maxima was paid in full when purchased so all I pay on it is the barebones insurance so it's the winter/part time daily driver. She runs a little rough but the TLC is on the to do list...I vowed to run it into the ground and the ground is still at least 6 inches away!

Today was a semi-lazy day...Sooooo I re-did my Rear View Mirror... :naughty:

2008alticoupeDan vinyled the mirror with Matte Black.
I took care of the artwork using some Paint Markers that can be bought at any craft store.
I've done this once before but peeled off the vinyl because I couldn't get the mirror to hold right.
Basically the mirror broke off while I was taking it off so a little duct tape holds nicely!
I'll be hanging the mirror back in the car tomorrow as well as add a couple more touches to the car... :chuckle:

Round 2...Success.

Pic 2 - My buddy Rob holding the mirror...for no reason.

That would be the back of the mirror...it faces out the windshield.
I tried gettin a picture of it installed but there is too much glare off the windshield to get a good pic.
It's quite vibrant. :rotflmao

The passenger side (STREeT) was markered up as an outer space theme...why? No Reason.
Complete with planets, stars, and a Finger Rocket...

The driver side (CRED) was a whole different story.
We were on a tadpole fishing expedition when the skies blackened, the seas rose, spit and tumbled.
Vision's of Ernest Hemingway's "Man and the Sea" blinded our practical thought.
Then from the bowels of the sea rose a great and mighty beast.
It's eyes burned like the depths of hell.
It's teeth stained crimson from blood of travelers past.
The smell of rotting breast flesh filled the midnight air. (Because everyone know midnight is the best time for tadpole hunting)
His 15 glistening tentacles slapped the water with ferocious might causing our dingy to capsize.
The mighty beast plucked us from the waters, raised us to the clouds above with thunder piercing our ears...then...SILENCE.
The creature then, in a voice eerily resembling that of Morgan Freeman (because who didn't expect that) said...
"Great wanderers of the still seas, you seek that which can not be found."
We then spoke from deep within our hearts, only the truest of truths..."Uhhhhhhhhhh...what?...Morgan Freeman??"

"SILENCE" the beast demanded. "Weary wanderers, what is it you seek?
"Tadpoles and SR20 parts for they are the rarest of gems" we replied.
Morgan Freeman asked "What dost thou needeth the parts of an SR20 when thine has a beat down Maxima?"
We stared the majestic being in the face and said..."BECAUSE RACECAR"

With his mind blown the serpent shouted "You have become one with the sea and are deserving of the highest of holy honors...CRED!"
We were then presented with the Pillar Of Cred...and totally leveled up.
The dragon then receded back into the murky depths never to be seen again.
Annnnd that's pretty much how it all happened...give or take.

LOL. This may be true...especially when the car is running full blown retarded at the moment...for the past few months...or year. :lolling:

Stupid Knock Sensor (I know of the phantom code, it's stupid). Thinking I have to clear out the EGR pipe and probably replace the EGR Valve as my car deems it necessary to throw CELs. And when the CEL is on, the car is such a dog, I mean, I almost got passed up by a toyota echo :frown:

The only one I feel that is legit a problem is P0440...EVAP SYSTEM MALFUNCTION.
Very elaborate on what that could be. Since I couldn't care less, I drive AROUND the EVAP system to pass inspections. :chuckle:

Debating on whether or not I want to do a top-end refresh. Intake gaskets, TB gasket, valve adjustment, etc.

Agreed. Especially my Max, definitely not a racecar.
Glad to see that particular line got so much recognition, just what I was going for.

Also agreed. More power but all the added weight didn't do it much good.
CVT = No fun...unless you like to pretend you're shifting
