iPhone 5 and EX35 compatability

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Does the new iPhone 5 work the same as previous iPhone 4 on the EX35? My iPhone 4 works flawlessly with my EX35 2010. I have a new iPhone 5 on the way. Does anyone have 1st hand experience with iPhone 5 and their EX35 2010? Thanks!

Yes, I saw that thread. It doesn't answer my question though.

I'm looking for 1st hand experience that confirms the iPhone 5 with the new connector works exactly like the iPhone 4 with the previous connector on an EX35 2010. Meaning that all the functionality is there with regards to ipod control from the navi screen.

Just wandering if anyone has any real world experience with this yet? Thanks in advance :)

Hi, I have both a 4S and a 5 with an EX35. Had no issues with both bluetooth and usb with the 4S. With the 5 bluetooth works fine but when I use the lightning connector (via usb) it doesn't work. By that I mean you can control everything (audio-wise at least) with the iphone but you can't use the EX35 controls like you can with the 4S. Hope this helps.

Cyberdeath: Thank you. That was precisely the answer I was looking for, unfortunately. I have an iPhone 4 and I love how I have full control over the audio through the navi screen and steering wheel. Sounds like that won't be the case with the iPhone 5 and new Lightening connector. Bummer. I wonder if the adapter to 30 pin would restore that functionality? (I have an iPhone 5 on order. I may cancel it now.)

I hope that adaptor will bring it back to normal, bluetooth is nice but doesn't charge my phone :) When it comes out I'll get one and try it out.

Hell, I would just be happy if my 2008 EX wouldn't suck the battery life out of my old iPod every time I make the mistake of leaving it connected. Every time I leave it connected for more than a few hours, I come back to a dear iPod. Kind of takes the joy out of having such a nice interface which controls full ipod functionality.

From what I hear and read about the Iphone 5 I would just stay away from it. There will be a 5s for sure. I like my 4s just fine and it works with my 2011 EX35

I would like to update you all that the Lighting to 30-pin adapter from Apple works well with my iPhone 5 in my Infiniti (2008). All of the Infiniti's navigation menus work fine though the stering wheel controls, etc, as does Pandora, DI.FM and any other internet radio you might use. I still need to use the charging adapter (I think this isn't an issue with newer cars), so I end up with 2 adapters as seen here in my picture:

By the way, the iPhone 5 is great. Siri over Bluetooth works great. Now she can play podcasts, read and respond to text messages. The turn-by-turn GPS is a great companion to my Garmin Nuvi too.

Teknical: That's great news! Thank you very much for the update. So, just to be clear, you're getting the same info as before on your nav screen as well?

Hopefully, this adapter will work the same on 2010 models also. If anyone has experience with this, please keep us updated.

Wow, I didn't realize that Pandora would even work via an iPhone on the older cars like ours ('08). Thought there was something to do with the Infiniti interface not being designed for anything but the native iPod functionality, so Pandora wouldn't work. Glad to hear I misunderstood.

Thanks for posting this.

Not only does Pandora and YouTube work over your speakers, but so does the new turn-by-turn GPS in Maps. It fades your music down temporarily then gives you directions. Really neat.

No kidding?? Out of curiosity, is this (e.g., Pandora/YouTube) functionality an iPhone 5 thing only--or did it also work with the 4, 4S?

I'm guessing by the fact you're using your iPhone5 for navigation that your '08 doesn't have factory nav (?) Mine does have it, but I'm thinking I really need to update my 3-4 year old map data which I'm sure is original.

Thanks!

Correct, Pandora YouTube, etc worked with all the phones. Just the new GPS is new, but that would have worked too if you had the Garmin or Tom Tom apps.

Cyberdeath: Thanks for the update and good news! I will order an iPhone 5 and 30 pin to lightening adapter now. Really love having full control of the phone through the steering wheel and nav screen. Sounds like the 30 pin to lightening adapter will make that happen. I suppose it charges the phone also?

Yes, charges too, works exactly the way it did before, only thing is is that the iphone 5 doesn't fit in the console with the tray properly anymore (because it's longer).

danncas, you should start a new thread called: "iphone 4s and ex35"

This thread concerns iphone 5, so maybe the people reading it don't have the 4s and can't help you? Just a thought.

Good luck!

FOR GOD SAKES, This is a EX forum to begin with. Most likely you don't even have a jail broke phone either.

Anyone using Spotify on Iphone 5 with their 2008 EX through the Ipod interface? I can hear the music from the speakers but any of the steering wheel controls do not work. I have to change tracks from the phone. Annoying.

I am in the exact same boat, but for some reason I can't get the stupid thing to work!

I have a 2008 EX with Navigation and an Iphone 5. I used the apple adapter together with the Passport adapter for charging (used without passport as well). The only difference is I have the .2m cable lightning adapter from Apple.

When I try to use Spotify, most of the time it says "Ipod is not connected." The phone thinks it is connected, and does not play the songs from its own speaker. Sometimes, about 10 minutes into driving, it suddenly starts working. I can hear the music from the speakers, but the steering wheel controls do not work, except only one time, during which I could switch the songs, but could not change playlists.

Any idea why this might be happening? Could it be the apple adapter? It is like the system waits to warm up before starting, or the initial download takes very long. Or I need to change a setting from Iphone. Because Siri or the map directions do not work either. Even tried deleting the bluetooth connection, which did not help.

I've never used spotify on the iPhone. Are you only having problems with that app? Make sure the apps and your iOS version are up to date. I think it's possible that one of your cables or connectors is damaged. I had some problems with the connector on my iPhone 4. It wouldn't work well with other external speakers either.

Thanks. I have been reading a G forum on this. Looks like a lot of 2008 folks with the same setup as ours are having problems with the .2m lightning cable but things work with the short adapter. I'll get the same thing and give it a try.
