Ooooooook.... Ive had the rogue for 2 weeks and im averaging 14.6 mpg but the car didnt call for a visit to the gas station for a whole week of driving (225 miles). A few days longer then my camaro would go. I was excited about this until tonight when i filled it up and it cost me 70 bucks! My camaro averaged 13mpg and by no means was i light on the throttle but when i filled it, it cost 60 bucks give or take to fill it but i was putting in 93 octane. So putting in regular and spending 70 bucks to fill the rogue is making me feel like WTF am i saving downgrading from an v8 to a straight 4?

You're only getting 14.6? That doesn't seem right. I get about 20-21 city and about 27 highway.

you gotta adjust your throttle control. if you floor it, you'll get worse MPG's than a hummer. you gotta be gentle with it, and watch your MPG's increase two fold. i get 30mpg's on highway, and city will be 19+.

when entering a highway, you will see your RPM's sitting above 3,000. if you let go of the throttle completely momentarily - allowing the RPM's to drop down to 1500/2000, and then reapply your throttle you will see your still doing the same MPH, but your RPM's will be lower = thus saving fuel.

I stay around 24 in the city, one of the main reasons for getting the rogue was fuel consumption.

I do notice if i'm in a harry situation and i'm getting on the on ramp in front of a semi or such situation

that i can literally watch the gas needle sink a quarter tank in front of my eyes.

So its always key to lightly lay on the gas.

Remember, its not a camaro. Its a soccer mom vehicle. ha!

I get the normal mpg's like everyone else. But one time on a out of town road trip and perhaps the gas there, I had my trip computer reading 31.7-31.8 mpg! I was trying to get the best mpg on my long trip as if it was a game. Oh, I was sooooooooooo close to my goal of hitting average 32 mpg on the trip display if it wasn't for the darn traffic that disrupted my steady driving. Arghhhhhhhhh!! So close.

On top of that, my Rogue is probably the most least aerodynamic vehicle in this forum with all the tubes ( bullbar/ lights, nerf, rear bars) and huge lightbar I have on my roof.

One member even broke the 500 miles on a tank in here. Of course you really have to try to achieve this.

I find that for myself, a very light foot on the gas and crusie control helped me achieve my best mpg while I found the pulse and glide technique not as effective even though I really hoped it would have done better. My sweet spot seems to be 58-60 mph.

500 miles on one tank? Well I suppose with extreme effort it's possible, but IMO that's really pushing the envelope. The farthest I've managed to go on one tank is 373.6.

Actually the member Pescakl1 achieved this if you read the thread on Rogue Gas Mileage:Real Owner Logs. This usually happens on a 10-12 hour trip where you might have to drive all day not off and on driving for 2 weeks.

I know if I drive on a long all day trip with hardly any rest stops, I can get at least 467 mpg on my tank at least. I always cross reference my odometer and reset it to get an approximate mpg for my tank. :inoutgay:

what was the cost of gas the last time you filled up the two vehicles?

What else may annoy you is that the Camaro had a 18.8 gal fuel tank and the Rogue only has a 15.9

i am starting to realize that giving it more gas doesn't really make a difference speed wise but i am watching the lil real time mpg meter and it makes a big difference there. I have a lead foot when it comes to driving and i guess i need to learn to be more patient lol... im gonna reset the meter today and try to get as much as i can out of my trip back and forth to work and post it up later.

I didnt even look last night what the price was but i was putting gas in the camaro when it was high and then it went down and i think its back up again... but regardless i was putting in 93 versus 87. Although to be honest though most of my fill ups in my camaro where in jersey where it was cheaper. Usually in new york i just threw in 50 a week.

One time when my camaro was at the dealer for a recall on the speakers and amp i had a malibu rent a car and in that car too i was averaging 15mpg. So it is the way i drive, no doubt about that but i just feel i drove my camaro the same way and got only 2 less mpg lol. But then again a light touch to the throttle gave me so much response in the camaro and with the 4 cylinders i hit the gas hard, light, medium (it dont make a difference really) i get such a poor response that it causes me to always be flooring it lol.

I know there have been some articles posted on line about feathering the gas pedal to give a steady stream of gas, especially when accelerating. On the other hand, there are some that suggest the faster you accelerate up to speed, the more mpg's you average, since minor adjustments in speed take little to no gas.

It took me quite a while to get accustomed to the CVT because it's so smooth, but I've managed to adjust my driving habits and have been rewarded with good mileage (see, you can teach an old dog new tricks). Speaking of the smoothness of the transmission, I was behind a pickup (don't remember the make) at a stoplight, and watched the truck lurch into gear when the light turned green. Yep, don't miss that at all. LOL!

I don't want to hear that gas costs to much for you or anyone else. Here in Chicago we have been getting raped for so many years it's crazy. This is the most corrupt city in the world. The Feds are FINALLY looking into price gouging here. Of course they will be paid off and the report will find nothing

Just driving tonight regular gas is $4.70 and premium is $5.05!

***Oh and BTW i didnt get a chance to test the rogue today driving a lil easier on the throttle because i was running late and 4got about it on the trip home...im off tomorrow so ill try it out on thursday***

I never understood why some people pay more than others. Well I kinda understand why the big cities may charge more than a smaller city. Also don't forget taxes or purity of gas as it pertains to the environment.

Don't get me going on this ethanol issue either. Supposedly using corn is suppose to lower prices and America not relying as much on Arab oil. Well seems like everything is still expensive. Not to mention the lower mpg's.

Anyways, reg. gas in my area is $3.69 and $3.99 for premium. But nearly $5 for gas again? I'm surprised there's not more of an uproar in the media. I didn't know it was that high these days. :wtf2: :wtf2:

Just rambling. :spitout:

Well i reset my mpgs and driving like my grandmother i achieved 17mpgs driving thr streets and once i got on the highway it went up to 29.1... And once i got off the highway the one light and lil stretch down the service road and manuevering in the parking lot brought me down to 28.4. This was only a 9.7 mile trip.

So all in all I see the rogue is capable of high mpgs but quite frankly theres no way in hell i could drive like that on a regular basis. Hell, I did this once in my Camaro when i worked all the way in the bronx which was a 30 mile trip and achieved 22mpgs. I'm just a little disappointed that using my regular style of driving i only achieved 1.7 more mpgs in a straight 4 over a pushrod v8.

Granted my Camaro was stick but automatics are supposed to beat out manuals in mpgs these days anyway...

You should get about 21-22 mpg in the city after break-in if that makes you feel any better. Or in other words about 75-80 extra miles. Not too bad. :domo:

Well i just drove home and reset it before leaving work a got 18 driving normal but not like an animal LoL... I can live with 18 i guess and if i get more after the break in thats even better. I guess the first 200 miles i put on the car i was a lil extra heavy on the throttle testing out what kinda balls the rogue had.

Actually that's a blessing in disguise since you are nicely setting in the piston rings ...etc when you do all that throttle testing. I did the same thing varying my rpm's when the vehicle was new.

I disagree with that. 21-22 would be a miracle. I live in the city and 80% in the city and get 18.5 - 19mpg.

I usually reset my trip A computer every fill up to see how many miles I get to a tank. I normally get around 350 miles to a tank since day one in the city.

I am also not a speed demon, but I do drive the speed limit at least or even 5mph above. Never race pass everyone so I have to slam brakes at a stoplight like some people. I also coast to a stop and trying to time a green AS LONG as nobody is behind me. It's not that big a vehicle ( quite small actually compared to the v-8 I grew up with as a kid), so if I can't get at least 350miles in city driving, I am not driving efficiently enough in my mind.

I also reset trip A and the MPG. The MPG is always at 18-19mpg

Same I'm not a crazy aggressive driver, usually
