How To – Install Replacement Rear Trunk Struts/Supports (2006-2010 M35/M45 Y50 series cars)

I have been looking for a replacement of new rear trunk struts/supports for my car for a few years, as I did not want to purchase used struts or Nissan Titan/any other Nissan model struts that *may* fit, but are not the exact same length as the OEM struts. For anyone who wants to replace their worn OEM rear trunk struts, I have found a great replacement. I have the liftsupportsdepot.com (purchased from ebay.com) 2006-2010 OEM size/quality trunk struts to replace my worn out OEM struts on my car. They are the exact size/length and exact fit as the OEM struts.

Picture of the Lift Supports Depot rear trunk struts:

Left Side is the OEM trunk strut; Right Side is the Lift Supports Depot trunk strut (exact same size/length/fit):

Time: 2 minutes for both sides.

Supplies Needed:

- Pair of Lift Supports Depot rear trunk struts:

- Flathead Screwdriver

- *Some Muscle*

Process:

1) Open Trunk.

2) Use Flathead Screwdriver to push inside ball socket tab and use some muscle to pull the top strut support out. Shown here:

3) Use some muscle and pull out the bottom strut support out by wriggling the bottom strut support forward and back while pulling it out with all of your might. Shown here:

4) Install new rear trunk strut by pushing in bottom strut support in socket, then pushing in top strut support in socket. Shown here:

6) Repeat installation on the other side.

7) Enjoy your new OEM quality trunk movement!

Excellent how-to post! Well-photographed, too. I will be trying this on my M45 shortly.

I happen to be online/checking the forum today, so I will add this to the FAQ thread.

Thank you! The iPhone 5 takes great photos and video if it is focused well. :) I'll be looking forward to an enlarged sensor and/or higher megapixel count on the iPhone 6 that's due to come out next year. Have fun with the install!

As of 10-22-13, the price for the Lift Support Depot rear trunk struts/supports is $59.00 + $6.90 shipping. This is a far better price than the over $130 for replacement OEM rear trunk struts!

How does it pop? Is it the same as factory, or will it raise the trunk at least half way? That's what I'm looking for...preferably all the way.

It doesn't pop, not yet at least - I've had it installed for a couple of months already. The OEM very used trunk struts would make it so it took little effort to open and close the trunk, and the new replacement ones makes it so the trunk doesn't fly open (you can control opening it easier), but closing it is a little more difficult as closing is more controlled as well.
