I'm not sure if your budget is realistic, OEM parts including the housung, ballast and bulbs are about $1100. You could just buy the housings and use cheaper aftermarket or even used ballasts to save a few bucks.

Another option is to start looking at auto recyclers for the parts:

The plug is different but if you modify it right then there will be no damage to electrical components. If you read the threads where I'm talking replacing headlights with custom ones or making the upgrade without dealership help then your dealership may void the warranty on some of the electrical parts. It is not really that hard to replace halogen with oem xenon headlights.
You will have to modify the connector. I bought the H11 adapter and connectors from infinity g35 on ebay for ballasts. So I didn't have to cut any wires except the adapter. The problem with adapter it will connect to your stock H11 wire but it will not work with connector of the ballast because the connectors weren't made for nissan ballasts on adapter. That's why you will have to modify it. I just soldered it together and installed. Worked like plug-n-play. Then it is optional but you might want to install the switch to adjust the headlights. It is about $60 + cable at the dealership but I didn't install it.
Here's the connectors from ballast and the adapter:

As easy as it seems, you need to understand at least a bit of automotive electrical and mechanical systems to perform this mod. If you run into problems, you could be left with a pile of parts and no working headlights.

Personally, I would seek a Nissan dealer, local shop, or automotive customizer (ie. like the places that sell remote car starters, etc) to do this install for you.

You need a special adapter harness to convert the stock H11 plug to types used on the HID ballast.

Leo2005 bought 2 wiring harnesses to accomplish this:

1) A generic H11 adapter harness:
http://www.ioffer.com/i/Xenon-HID-Wire- ... r-80485671

2) An OEM Nissan HID harness that has the E02FGY-RS HID ballast connector:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissan-I ... ccessories

Leo2005 then cut off the incorrect end from the H11 harness, and spliced on the HID ballast connector. Presto, he has an adapter harness!

Very smart setup Leo. ;) You retained the factory harness, no hacking, and used all OEM weather pack type connectors. It should be a very reliable setup.

Did you purchase just the bare HID housings or the entire HID headlamp assembly (which includes ballasts and bulbs)? If you just got bare HID housings, you still need the ballasts and bulbs.

Leo2005 used a complete headlamp assembly with OEM ballasts. His adapter harness is designed to work with these components.

As philipa stated you will have to cut the black connector on the adapter and solder the gray one. Make sure to test it so it is working before soldering and use good weatherproof heat shrink that you can buy at any auto or electrical store. If the ballast will not work during the test just switch the wires the opposite way. The ballast has a polarity and it is protected against reverse polarity. If you still have difficulties with soldering then just send me the parts and I'll solder it for you at no charge. PM me for more details. BTW you can buy aftermarket D2R hid kit for your new xenon headlights but you will meet the same problem with connectors.

i ordered the oem housing with the ballast used

i hope i dont run into problems. How hard is it to remove the oem housing ?

im curious if i was to buy the OEM XENON HEADLAMP and buy an aftermarket kit will that work the same way as the oem setup - by this i mean will it not bother headon traffic ?

Read the service manuals. Section 'EXL' explains the headlamp removal procedure.

I looking into doing this too. Its my girls car but i figure why not...my damn civic does not have hids, i would have to go retro but the rogue would be alot easier to do since nissan decided to offer it as an upgrade.

Tranceboy make sure you document and take pictures so we can follow.

Forgot to say...long time ago I asked dealership how much is hid headlight and their respond was - $750 each. They charging so much because it comes with ballast and the bulb. Now if your ballast is faulty they will replace the whole headlight because Nissan doesn't sell the ballasts only. Now if you go with aftermarket hid kit you might meet the problem with connectors. If you buy H11 hid kit for OEM hid headlights then the bulb will not fit. If you buy D2R hid kit for OEM hid headlights then the problem with connectors as we talked about it earlier.

The only difference that different type of bulb is going in and you can install electrical switch to adjust the height from inside of the car. Other than that headlights are the same and both of them you can adjust with screw driver from the top of the headlight. If you look on halogen headlight you will find a space underneath with 3 holes for oem nissan ballast.

So the housing is the same? I thought that the xenon assembly was different than the halogen housing......

lol wow...

So why the price difference? I am here thinking that the xenon inside reflector was different than the halogen. So basically you can use the regular halogen housing add the ballast underneath somehow and be done with it.

No cut-off help ....im just shocked...and i had just bought a xenon headlight !!!! lol damn damn wasted some flow right there.

Ty dude for the info.

Leo are you sure on this ? If thats the case then its easy just to replace with an after market HID KIT. I thought it was the same thing ERMASTA said.

Guys, the reflector used on the HID headlamp is shaped completely different from the halogen one. Although the housing itself may appear the same and even have the HID ballast mounts, the difference is in the reflector.

Reason being: an HID light source is shaped differently than halogen and is oriented differently in the housing.

If you put an HID bulb in a halogen reflector, not only is it illegal, it causes glare issues and a very poor beam pattern.

When myself and Leo2005 were discussing HID conversions in other threads, the best solution was to use the OEM HID headlamp housing. Not only does this make the conversion legal, you will get an optimum beam pattern to make the most of your new HID bulbs. IMHO this is the proper way to do it and is money well spent!

So be confident of your new HID headlamps and get the conversion done already! :dblthumb:

lol thank you Philipa......thats what i thought , just wanted to make sure.

I will be making the conversion beginning next year since i have already spent a few $$ on my girls car and the holidays are coming up.

Now about the harness: It looks simple enough since all you have to do is splice the cables but here is my question.

Instead of cutting the cable..can i just use one of these?

http://www.amazon.com/Grote-Quick-Splic ... 72&sr=8-16

I would ofcourse cap the unused ends with electrical grease and wrap with electrical tape.

What do you guys think?

If you want to start and electrical fire, those would be the ticket. Those types of connectors are meant for low power applications. If you try to put more than a few amps through them, they may overheat and fail... or worse yet cause a fire.

Either use butt splices or solder the wires together. You can protect the connection from corrosion with silicone filled heat shrink tubing.

lol ...i get it. It looks simple now that i see that you can buy everything pretty much done...just cut solder and shrink wrap. It does make it clean looking.
