Post

Hi all,

I have been looking for a solution to a seemingly simple problem. I just purchased an 06' M35 and it has EVERYTHING I wanted; with the exception of Bluetooth Audio. After doing some light research through other forums, I came across GROM Audio and I still had a few questions.

1.) Does anyone on this forum have experience with this part? Does it function well? I read about some problems that some of them were having (the prefix that was selected as their audio output was not working, the volume was half of what it should be, etc.), is it easy or difficult to configure?
2.) How difficult is the installation on a scale of 1 to 10? Do I have to remove the Navi screen and the stock Bluetooth receiver in the glove compartment?
a.) If I did have to get access to the back of the navi screen, do I have to remove the center console? I am definitely not comfortable doing that because it's a solid piece of plastic and I don't want to f@$& anything up.
3.) What are some other things that I need to consider and think of before buying this specific part for my conversion?\
4.) Are there any other options out there besides the GROM setup?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Proud M35 Owner

I don't know about the bluetooth, but I was the one who wrote the HowTo on the installation of a Grom unit.

IT. IS. CRAP. lol.

You will likely need to get to the back of the radio to plug the Bluetooth variant in. You don't need to touch your Navi screen or bluetooth module.

There are threads on the forum where others (myself included) have used either the USA Spec unit or the iSimple kit to get Bluetooth Audio working..I used the iSimple kit.

I can't speak on the Grom audio kit but from what I remember reading from Ilya's write up it wasn't that bad..to install any of the iPod kits out there though, you will definitely need to take the center console as well as the headunit out in order to plug the unit into the radio..I hope this helps

It isn't hard to get to the radio, yes, but AVOID GROM. It is JUNK.

Get the USA Spec or iSimple as Don said. See the FAQ link in my signature to find the link on how to take the interior apart.

I forgot to mention one salient point. I have a Galaxy S3. Are these other units compatible with android phones?

I prefer the sound of the USA Spec to the iSimple but for whatever reason it wouldn't work for me. As for you having the S3 it doesn't matter since you'll need additional items along with the iPod kit to be able to make the Bluetooth Audio work.

Bluetooth technology is bluetooth technology. Should apply to any thing, including computers.

I have a Droid Razr Maxx and it works fine. Like Ilya said, Bluetooth is Bluetooth. So long as your phone has it (which it does obviously) then it'll work.

Has anyone tried one of the A2DP plug and play units like the BlueTrek? I guess I don't care if I use the steering wheel buttons or just use the phone. I have an Android, too and I'm thinking I will just install one of those.

so bought the Grom before finding this forum for my "new" 2008 m35 sport. CarToys could not figure out how to install. In researching I have found a few options including adding a 30pin BT receiver for the IPOD connector. One of these units is like $20.

Has anyone tried streaming bluetooth through the IPOD connector? Seems pretty inexpensive and simple way to go.

I want superior sound with the factory radio (has GPS) but will never buy an Apple product or care about SAT radio. Whats the top of the line option out there?

:)

I've tried various bluetooth IPOD doc adapters, none of them work. The head unit is looking for two way communication with the idevice and the BT adapters don't handle that.

I'm currently using the Miccus BT adapter plugged into the AUX port. Check out this thread for more info.

thx agee. That's what I needed to know. So I guess the BT through AUX is better than the Grom unit? I realy want a digital signal and not stereo through aux. I was already planning to rig my belkin Bluetooth receiver through there as a stop gap until I got the Grom or some better solution working.

Thx again.
