Hey guys, I have a question/ problem. I have a new phone the Samsung Galaxy S4. Our M's come with a plug in adapter for the iphone to play music through the car's sound system. Does anyone know where to get the adapter cord that will work with the Samsung phone? Would this be a simple adapter cord swap or would the whole module for the audio system need to be changed? Cant send pics still learning how to use the new phone. Thanks for replies. :gotme

I have tried to use my Samsung galaxy 3. I have the usb cable and it still won't work. You have to keep using blue tooth.

I'm having this issue as well. I tried stacking a ipod bluetooth adaptor http://www.amazon.com/Patuoxun-Bluetoot ... B0094G44PS with a scoche charging adapter to pwoer the BT. My phone was able to connect but unable to play any music through the ipod interface. I'm not too sure if the ipod BT interface will accept music from android phones. It should work in theory, perhaps a different BT adapter would work.

Currently I'm running a RCA -> 3.5 mm cable from the AUX port behind the center console. It's not the most elegant solution. I'll eventually try this device to plug into the rear AUX port: http://www.amazon.com/Miccus-Mini-jack- ... B0038MA11U.

Anyone else have any ideas?

edit: I found this review on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2KRVW7AR7UTTC/.
It looks like the ipod interface wants "want to talk to the iPod to get access to the whole music library. The bluetooth interface doesn't allow this. Basically the iPhone bluetooth interface only supports stereo audio and Play/Pause/skip-forward/skip-backward. So these devices don't recognize the bluetooth adapter as an iPod/iPhone."

For now, I'm giving up the idea of bluetooth through the 2008-2010 integrated ipod connector. I ordered the Miccus RX device and I'll update the thread when I test it out.

I would be interested to hear your impression of the Bluetooth receiver.

I just received the Miccus this afternoon and plugged it in. The package comes with: Miccus bluetooth rx device, one short 3.5mm male to male cable, short 3.5mm male to RCA left/right, one 3.5mm male to male plug, one USB to mini usb cable, instructions.

Setup was easy, plugged in the 3.5mm end into the Miccus, the RCA ends into the rear AUX panel, and USB into the USB cigarette adapter to power it. Pairing was straight forward, my Nexus 4 had no problems connecting. Switched to AUX input and press play on my Nexus 4 and music came through the speakers. I had to turn the phone's volume all the way up, but that was already the case when I connected via a 3.5mm to RCA cable. If you leave the Miccus plugged in, it automatically turns on and connects to the last paired device when you start your car/switch to ACC. I plan to never unplug this so I don't care about battery life.

A small annoyance is that it uses a mini USB connector, but a cable was included. Also, you'll have to rely on your phone to get information since the screen will be blank. At some point I would love to see if the Miccus and the cables could be moved elsewhere since they're just sitting in the rear passenger area. I have not road tested it yet to see if there's any interference when the car is running its powered via the USB. I'll edit this post when I get a chance.

Update: Drove up to LA to get dinner last night and was able to get a better sense of the Miccus. I played the same song via: CF card, Aux to 3.5mm connected to my phone, and through the Miccus bluetooth device. CF card is clear winner in terms of quality.

Comparing cabled vs bluetooth, the Miccus seems to amplify the signal and the music is less clear. More bass is heard on the Miccus but voices aren't as crisp vs the cable solution. But I feel that the convenience of not having a bunch of wires outweighs the lower quality, The Miccus is perfect for podcasts/audiobooks/pandora streaming. I suspect other bluetooth to AUX products will have some quality loss. For now, I'll stick with using the CF card for higher quality music.

He has a 2012, those come with bluetooth audio streaming. The 08-10 models have integrated ipod support via cable but no bluetooth audio.

If you buy the Miccus Mini RX jack like posted above then you can stream bluetooth music to the Aux input that is located behind the center console...I have the Miccus and it's pretty damn sweet for only be about $40...My phone connects to both the factory stereo via bluetooth and the Miccus at the same time..The Miccus for Bluetooth audio and the factory radio for incoming/outgoing calls....I use a app on the Android Market called PowerAmp and you can fine tune the bluetooth audio to your liking...It's pretty easy...I might just make a video so y'all can see.

Video is a little dark but we get the idea :chuckle:

Where do you keep the Miccus when you are driving, are the included cables long enough for it to sit in the front center console? Since you are having success with it I may pick it up but I would like to keep it in the center console so it is concealed.

Thanks

Excellent work. My boss was riding in my car & couldn't understand why it didn't have a hookup for his iPhone. I told him that iPhones didn't come out until 2007, whereas the M was built in mid-2005, and proprietary Apple connectors for cars didn't become popular until many years later. Blew his mind (which sadly isn't too hard to do).

The RCA cable is only about 6 inches long where as the power cord is about 15 inches or so...I was able to just run the wire between the gap of the arm rest of the center console and the console itself...Like if you lift up the arm rest you'll see how there becomes a gap near the back of the console...Just threw it in the console and done...cables were long enough to do that and then aren't in anyone's way in the front or back of the car.

How would you compare the sound quality on that to lets say a direct connection?

I have a similar set up for the house. It's basically a 20 dollar bluetooth streaming device that connects to any sound system so I can play songs, movies or games on my iPhone and not have any wires connected. The sound on that is not the best and there is a noticeable raspy/static sound to it.

My thoughts are to get one of those "add a cigarette lighter" sets they sell at autozone and tap into the existing lighter jack in the back of the car and run the wires into my armrest. I would do the same with the 3 RCA jacks and run the wires into the console. That way, I can have that small door shut in the back and not have ANY visible wires.

I had a small quality comparison in my post earlier, but I find that the Miccus device amplifies the signal before it sends it to the AUX ports. Bass is deeper and slightly more distorted with the Miccus compared to directly connected to the AUX port. The mids and highs sound "muffled" to me.

If you want quality, use the CF card slot (or burn a CD?). Directly pluging to the AUX is lower quality, plus the signal is low and you have to turn the volume to max on your phone.

The Miccus is worse quality of the three options, but it's so damn convenient. I don't have to download files to a CF card before I leave the house. I don't have cables coming from the top (3.5mm) AND the bottom (usb charging) of my phone. Its awkward to pick up the phone when there's all these wires coming from it.

I'd also like to somehow route the wires inside the center console to keep the back panel/door closed to keep things clean and tidy. Any thoughts on how to do that?

So it sounds like you are giving up more quality, plugging into the aux ports directly, for convenience, using the Miccus?

Am I reading that right?

Exactly. I have a Nexus 4 so my 3.5mm plug is at the top of the phone while the power is at the bottom of the phone. Having two wires pull and tug when I pick up the phone to pattern unlock the screen is bothersome. Part of the problem is that I don't have a phone cradle/stand, I haven't found a spot where I can easily get to the phone. I just purchased the Tasker app on android and almost created a profile that will disable pattern/password unlock when the phone is connected to the car's bluetooth and will relock it when bluetooth disconnects/car is off.

This is only my opinion, but the Miccus is slightly worse quality than FM radio. I was testing with a song with an okay amount of bass (Daft Punk - Get Lucky) and I ended having to adjust the bass control on the radio down a notch or two. But it's much clearer than AM radio, but by no means are you getting CD quality sound from this device. At $40, I'd would recommend purchasing from Amazon and trying it out. If by some reason the device "doesn't work" Amazon will cover return shipping charges.

I'm curious to quality of other bluetooth devices are. I have a friend with a Jabra that I'll try to borrow and test out.

Are you using the built in music player on the Phone?? I use PowerAmp music player and my system is as loud or louder then a cd. I have an aftermarket 12" sub and honestly I don't think I lose much quality at all and I'm pretty stubborn about my music.

so how does this solution compare to something like the Grom unit? I want digital Bluetooth if possible rather than stereo from aux.

Has anyone tried something like this?

Check out the 3rd post in this thread. I tried a similar device with my android phone and the setup did not work. It wouldn't hurt to try it out since Amazon has a generous return policy for items that don't work and/or are not as described. Be aware, you might need the Scosche adapter to provide power to the BT device. Update the thread if/when you get to test it.

Maybe take a look at this (don't know if it will work cause I haven't tried, but looks helpful).
