What is the capacity of a 240sx fuel tank?

I keep reading that it is 17 gals, but when I fill up at a quarter tank I end up filling up about 10 or 11 gals. I tried searching for this answer, but no luck.

I ask because I get really ****ty gas mileage. I am getting about 200 miles at most with a full tank.

The 95s have a 17 gallon tank, but the fuel gauge reads funny. Before I swapped to my walbro pump I was able to drive for nearly 50 miles with the low fuel light on. If your engine is running properly, you should be able to get around 400 to a tank, if your motor is stock.

I still have three galllons in my '90 model after it hits empty. It's got one less gallon though than the '95. 200 miles a tank is lower than expected though. Probably need a tune up soon....

I didnt really push mine until I had my new pump waiting at home. I grabbed a one gallon gas can and drove around until it ran out of gas. After 50 miles with the fuel light on, its was sputtering pretty bad, but it never died.

That is a mith, there is a filter sock on the inlet of the pump. The reason that running a car out of gas is bad for it is simple. Fuel pumps get very hot when they run, being submerged in fuel is what keeps them cool. When you run out of fuel, there is no liquid around the pump to cool it, as well as no liquid flowing through the pump to cool it. Also without force to slow it down, the pump speeds increase, again increasing heat, and the pump burns out.

I have a 95. I went to fill my car up a few weeks ago and it didnt go to the highest line, but only the second highest. Thought that was really strange. My low fuel light doesn't even come on.
