Yes, it's called
audio pilot, no, it's not similar to noise-cancelling headphones (at least not in all model years). Noise cancelling headphones generate soundwaves opposite the noise so you won't hear the noise because the noise waves and generated waves cancel each other out. I was in a 2005 Audi RL that did this, and it was amazing. The 2006 M definitely did not do that (it just gets louder to drown out the noise), and definitely did call it
audio-pilot, so I would at least hope they would use a new name if they did do that in later models. I won't argue as to whether it uses speed or th emicrophone for in-cabin noise levelse, because I don't remember off hand, but I wouldn't be surprised if the manual specifically said it uses speed, and if only the tech package has the microphone/bluetooth capabilities, then that would make it even more likely to use speed, because the base models probably have the option too.
ETA: And the reason I actually started this post... For the user who asked: the
audio-pilot option is in the general settings you access with the settings button on the dash, not the "special/secret"
diagnostic mode.
