Can anybody give me a clear definition for the difference of these 2 terms? I hear the used all the time, but I can never figure out what their differences are and what each term applies too?

They are japanes forZenki = "early"Kouki = "late"

so a Kouki S14 is a late production S14, from 1997-1998, and a Zenki is an early production S14, from 1995-1996

Now this applies to S13's too, where the Zenki is the 1989-1990 "pignose", but it gets to be abit more different. The 1991-1994 is referred to as "Chuki", which means middle. This is because those lucky SOBs in Japan got another 3 years (1995-1998) of S13 production, and those are called "Kouki" S13. Only the 180SX, which is our Fastback 240SX, no coupes though.

You hear the term in the US to refer to a 240SX with Kouki items from Japan, most typically the taillights, and on occasioin the "type X" spoiler.

no, kouki merely refers to the last couple of years in the production of one of the models, like kouki S14, kouki S13, etc.

It was 1999 to 2002 I think, when the S chassis was killed forever. So far as we know anyways. And yes, it was JDM only. I presume there could be "zenki" and "kouki" labels on the S15 if they changed body stylings mid generation.

That's really what zenki, chuki, and kouki represent, body changes mid-generation. Like how the latest Camaro changed the headlights mid-generation to make it look like the Chevrolet Sebring

1999. 1 : NISSAN announced the release of the 7th generation of Silvia, the S15. The S15 is a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, powered by Nissan's SR20DET; a 2.0 litre in-line 4 cylinder turbocharged engine with air-to-air intercooler that delivers a power output of 250 horsepower that results in a power-to-weight ration of less than 5Kg/PS. The S15 has a new 6-speed close-ratio gearbox for improved acceleration and features a specially tuned exhaust system characterized by a powerful sound at low engine speeds and a liner increase at high engine speeds.

2000. 7 : AUTECH announced that it releases the Silvia Convertible Varietta. The Silvia Convertible Varietta comes with the first fully opening power metal top to be featured on a domestic convertible. The top raises and lowers in about 20 seconds, driven by an electric motor that is operated by an instrument panel switch. The Silvia Convertible Varietta adopts 2+2 interior packaging with comfortable seating for 4 passengers.

2000.10 : The L-package and the Type-B are added to the Silvia line-up. The L-package includes exclusive interior features (under instrument panel, vent grille, silver meter, inside door handle, shift finisher, and aluminium pedals) for silver/silver colour scheme and black/silver leather seats to create a sporty interior ambience. It also comes with remote control entry system and fog lamps. The Type-B is a custom base model.

2002. 1 : The V-package is introduced. The V-package models are based on the Spec-R/Spec-S featuring exclusive front seats, 1DIN type MD/CD player, privacy glass, and High Intensity (H.I.D.) Xenon headlights.

The s13 had 3 models: zenki (early, pig nose) chuki (middle, rounded, bullet nose) and kouki (late, different front and tail lights)

The s14 had 2 models: zenki (early, rounded headlights) and kouki (late, chisled or angry headlights).

The s15 was a jdm only model and didn't have any body changes so it was only a zenki model before production stopped
