Hey guys I was wondering what it takes to actually swap the vg30dett into a z31 na car? I was looking and found a 86 z31 with a spun bearing for $500. I know that you can get a vg30dett for about $1500. So what is needed to swap it into the car.

a lot of time and money, the engine mounts line up, btu the steering is int he way, then of course you need all the intake and exhaust piping, the tt ecu, maf, wire harenss, then you have to adapt the engine harness to your chassis harness, it'll bolt to your trans but the flywheel is the wrong diamter and the pp might rub the bellhousing, do clearancing the case and shimming the starter will be needed as minimul, as well as some creative rerouting of the steering linkage

it's been done, don't expect to find a lot fo details ont he swap as it's rare and for a reason, the v30et swap si far simpler, cheaper and yields nearly as much power for a fraction fo the time and cost, if you really want to do it and don't mind fighting it the whole way and constantly looking to solve the next problem, go for it, I've doen radical swaps but this one is just not worth it imho

+1Plus, forget being easily able to work on it unless you have a lift. The DE would be easier to swap just so it's on the record, and a single turbo setup would work better anyway.

If you feel the need to swap in another engine, get a VG33, rebuild it, turbo it, and drop it in. Or if you want to be different, and can find one, a VG33ER. Both would be easier than the DE swap.

Oh, and don't be surprised if the friendly local Bum puts a spike to your a** over this thread.

Yeah we dropped that idea out. I was just interested in what it would take. Now looking at the vg33 swap. Or maybe a na to turbo.

I turbo'd my n/a Z31,and honestly, I liek the vg30et motor a heck of a lot mroe than the vg30dett, the de si just overcomplicated for the sake of being overcomplicated, it's overengineered and over appreciated, no one expects the z31 to be capable of what it is capable of
