you can turbo the n/a but you'll need the injectors and ecu hack or stand alone, oil pan, crossmsmber and exaust manifold turbo and downpipe, you cna use a relcation manifld liek the ones satan sells to avoid the croeemember swap but you'll have to plumg the oil and add a return bung to the oil pan

mine is a turbo n/a but ti's a heck of a lot easier to just buy a turbo

Unless you have a cherry 87' NA the boating would be much easier to just buy a Turbo and be done with it.

I am the original owner of a 84' NA (the insurance for a 20 year old in 84' was 3.5k per year for the Turbo) and i looked into it. As you saw from evildky's list of stuff, it is not a direct fit. Even if you get a direct engine you still need to change the crossmember, new ECU etc.

Either buy a turbo or just live without boost.

I've helped a friend do it before, it isn't really that bad. We're using the 86NA wiring harness with 84T parts, with NA idle controls and such... to do everything up like a stock turbo you do have to modify the wiring harness in a couple places. Also, extending the alt wiring is a pain in the a**.

That doesn't mean that swapping the wiring harnesses is any easier. I'm pulling the harness out of my 87 to paint the engine bay and uh... I'm no stranger to having the dash out, but there's a lot more stuff under there you have to take out than first appears.

The easiest thing is to buy a turbo or a completed NA2T. Whatever you do, if it is an NA2T don't mess with the boost too much until you get an intercooler.

the cost will vary, the cheapest method of doing the swap is to get a complete donor, I've bought 2 turbo donnors with bad motors, for $450 and 500 respectively, I paid too much for the first, the secone came with a CLSD so it's well worth the cost

you then harvest the crossmemberoilpanoil feed lineoil "T"turbodownpipepassanger side exhaust manifold (it has the turbo flange)ecuharnessmafmaf to turbopipingfuel injectorsvacpumpcheckvalvesand if you are putting the turbo goodies on an n/a you'll need an intercoler and piping, you have to fab this yourself and everyone does it differentand since you want to put the turbo good on an n/a you'll need engine managment like nistune, or a standalone like megasquirt (I use megasquirt)

aside form the donor you'll need to vy the i/c and piping expect aroudn $4-500, you'll need engine managment, nistune with licencing, cable etc will run you aroound $400, megasquirt will cost you closer to $500

so exopect to spend at least $2500 on the swap, and lots of time and lots of learning, and lots of bloody knuckles

Sorry, but why does he have to go aftermarket on the ECU? Lots of people run stock ECUs, as long as it's the proper ECU for the turbo injectors and O2 sensor, he will be fine. I just don't see the need to go aftermarket on it, get it running stock and then worry about upgrades.

if he's runnign a turbo on a hihg compression n/a motor he needs to be able to tune it, the stock tune is rich and the timing is conserveive for the stock turbo compression btu for the n/a compression it's an expensive mistake to make

nissna makes most of them, which is wht it's easier to just buy a turbo car to start wih, and if you must turno the n/a buy a complete donor

no offence but if oyu have to ask you probably shouldn't be trying to do the swap, go buy a turbo you'll be much happier
