ok so i have a white 86 Z, t tops, all digital gauges, 5 speed, good motor, bad shocks and springs, both doors are wire hacked BAD. tan cloth interior that looks like a**, only real body damage is on the rear left quarter at the bottom. so heres the options. i could sell it for $750 as it sits, fix it up and try to get 1500obo, or part it out. any suggestions?? it needs to go within 65 days

I would spend one dime on it. You wil never get the money back. Anything you can "McGiver" back together is fine but you never get your money back out of doing any real repairs. You'd spend $750 for parts and labor on shocks and springs alone and that is probably the tip of the iceberg with an 86' car that has been neglected. The Z31 is a great car but years of neglect leave way too much...DUMP!

i only spent 250 on it and drove it home. bought a new front bumper and fixed all the hack job wiring for the most part.

Good luck to you spending a few bucks on it to get alot more, what i am saying is that struts cost money, rear shocks cost money, parts will cost you even if you DIY the whole thing.

I am not a DIY'er and i just dropped $1200 easily into a my 84' that has been well kept on a full timing belt job with all new hoses, belts, water pump, cam seals and a slew of other stuff. I can only imagine you trying to fix anything, you will not get your money back.

You already took my advice, you McGiver'ed everything you could for $250 bucks, that is the right....don't threw any more $$$ at it.

im nissan, infinity, as well as bmw cirtified. im more than qualified to work on this bucket. all im doing is putting door panels, and body work, along with fixing the hack job wiring. possibly struts if i feel the need. the dousche that buys it in orlando is probably going to cut/heat the springs anyway i might as well just save them the time.

Drive up I4 to the u-pull junkyard at daytona and pull what you need there.

That stuff costs pennies on the dollar.

Not sure how harsh a door wiring can be hacked unless it was a remote locking servo spliced into the door lock system since there really isn't much wiring anybody would want to hack in those doors other than speaker wires.

If you're interested in selling it, just sell it and avoid the headache of working on it since that work will probably not increase your selling price at all.

we have a you pull and pay here in orlando, i picked up a bumper there already, theres no interior and i gotta take a look at a wiring diagram to see what even happened in the doors. theres nothing aftermarket. looks like the scissor arms cought the wires in there somehow. either that or some retard just cut them for s***s and giggles. well see i guess

Well you can wrench so that is good, Infiniti is with an "i" not 'y" so you might look more qualified to work on them..Just pulling your leg don't get mad .

I see an occasional Z31 going for $2500-3000 out there that are in okay shape, if you want more than that you need to really have it looking good. Most of the ones for sale are thrashed to hell, you'll probably sell it with a for sale sign on it somewhere or Craig's List.

I have a 84' that has been babied since new, rebuilt transmission, mechanically perfect with 162k on the original motor and 2k worth of stereo equipment and I wonder what I would get if I really sold it, I cannot imagine more than 5k. I have a declared value of $7500 for insurance purposes. Doesn't really matter as I would never sell it.

I wonder if you get it put back together if you might want to keep it

i really would like to keep it and throw a vk or vq in it, if i could even afford a motor. but i recently got boned by my insurance, and got another ticket, so 420$ out of my pocket that i counted on, i have no money to do anything to it now. i got myself in a s***ty situation, so im willing to take 400 for it if anyone knows anyone in the orlando area looking for one.
