Hay all

I have a 83 720 4x4 nissan?datsun . It actualy in in very good shape other than the rusty bet & the engin.

I am lookng to swap out my z24 to either a good z24 with the KA24E head ( if it will fit?)

or an out right z24 swap to KA24E..

Can I do the head swap?

Will the head just bolt up?

IF yes then can I use the intake form the z24 (it has a 2b webber carb on it & I don't want the hassle of changing to fuel injection if possible)

or can I bolt up the intake off the z24 to the ka24e??

I want the more power of the ka24e with out the fuel injection if poss
Also can a upgrade head gasket be found ( like a perm a torc head gasket instead of what I am finding for the Z24)

In short Help please

I started a thread about ka24e vs z24 a while ago, nevewr actually got around to swapping heads on opposing short blocks.

I would say just go with a ka24e pick-up motor, it will be a pretty straight forward swap.

I don't think so.

I'd probably use KA24e out of a truck with 240sx intake. but I am sure the d21 intake would also fit in the 720 fine.

The nice thing about the KA24e is that you can boost it easier, if you wanted more power later on.

That means I will need another complete running truck for everything. not looking good I was hoping to just get a ka24e head ( they are only $27.00 at our local u pull junk yard) out of the junk yard & bolt it up to my newer z24 block & go with that. It is not fitting it into the truck that is the issue after all If I am willing to just cut & weld I could get in a v6 easy. I realy am trying to get more power with out getting into fuel injection install & all that . I need more info. I will probly go get a ka24e head & take mine apart & try it. That will not cost me that much to see. Thanks

I would say that the KAe head on the z24 block would be just as much work if not more, than swapping.

You did notice that there are more than 1 difference in motors right?!

2 valve vs. 3 valve.
dual row chain vs. single.
Starter attaches to trans gasket vs. mounting on the block.
The head gaskets are similair but not the same.
Port shape on heads differ.
Trans bolts up but I think someone said the engine angle is off.

So feel free to attempt it and post up results in the Z24 vs KA24e thread.

I thought the ka24e head was 16 valves & I know the z24 is 8. (I have not actualy handled a ka24 head nor block yet)
I guess I will have to look at one live & see what is what. If it will fit that will be my best bet. If not I will probley sell this truck & ste up to a hard body Or something else. My starter mounts through the block Hole on passenger side into the spot for the starter in the transThe pics of the ka24e I have seen they look very much the same. .

Again thanks

There are two kinds of KA motors you can get in the US... The dual cam KA has 16 valves, the single cam KA (which is what you find in the D21 trucks and early 240sx's) has only 12 valves.

The bellhousing is compatible between the motors, but I don't know about the rear transmission half. I also don't think the starter crosses over. I could be wrong...
