I rebuilt my carb and here's why. Details can come later.
I wanted better than 22mpg, so I decided it was worth the expense - cost me about $45. I should earn that back in savings fairly quickly even if I get only 2 or 3 mpg better after the rebuild.

The carb kit for mine was a WALKER 151000B which I got from O'Reilly's for $34.50 plus about 5 cans of carb cleaner spray.

The kit came with everything I needed, most importantly, a new accelerator pump and several inner gaskets. No jets were included. Half the stuff was not used because they included variations of the inner gaskets since the carbs for the Z24 were not all exactly alike.

I have NEVER rebuilt a automobile carb. Did my boat a couple of times is all, so I went at this with extreme caution. Not that bad, but these carbs have so many passages for fuel you wouldn't believe me unless I showed you.

The rebuild went well. Bolting it back on was a real chore. Started right up but ran rough at first. Settled down after I took it for a quick spin. Idled high, but then settled down.

I think there is a BIG difference now - of course - why not? I had just cleaned out 26 years of accumulated varnish and dirt. Squirted myself in the eye with carb cleaner too! OUCH! No more bogging, stuttering, and much better acceleration. However, the only proof will be if I see better mpg.

I would have absolutely no problem getting rid of vacuum lines and an old carb and upgrading to a Weber, but I own 6 cars/trucks and I save $ where I can. I also liked the challenge of doing something and then maybe being able to help someone else with their carb problem.
