Hey everyone,

First of all I'd like to start off by saying great site. I have already potentially located the source of one of the rattling issues I've been having and that seems to be dash/trunk separation rattling. I'm in good company I guess.

I however have another problem, and that problem is a second source of rattling that seems to be coming from outside of my car. I don't exactly know where its coming from but from the drivers seat it sounds like its coming from the engine compartment in the midline of the car, somewhere underneath the cup holders. It only happens under gentle acceleration (say between the 1000-1500rpm range) and seems to disappear at speeds above that. Does anyone have a clue as to what I'm talking about?

I'm not going to be one to complain, but how satisfied is everyone in the overall quality of their Versa? I will concede that it is a fun and economical car but in my opinion it seems like a few things were overlooked when they were designing this car. Anyway, enough about that.

Help is greatly appreciated if someone can identify my problem.

Edit: Sorry, I just now realized that I didn't include the most important part. I'm driving a 2008 SL Hatchback with CVT transmission.

Well, it depends on the "luck of the draw", I guess, but it looks like some of us got better ones than others. I've put a few miles on mine (...) and am still thrilled with its quality. Still smooth and quiet, inside and out!

No problems at all with my wife's 4 month old '08. Solid as a rock.

If you search this forum for "rattle" you'll come up with many reasons for rattling. From the way you describe it I would lean towards the exhaust heat shield. Does it do it only (or is it louder) when the engine is cold?

Re: under the hood rattle.

Have you checked to make sure you've latched the hood prop firmly back in its bracket? It has to be pushed firmly and latched [clicked] in the bracket - if not it will rattle away.

Man, the V's hood prop set-up really threw me the first time.Hardly like the ease of a Golf/Jetta eh?

I have the same Versa with the same problem. They found that the exhaust heating shield was hitting some and bent it up a bit. Took care of that one. Now if I can just find out what the rattling in on the drivers side seat belt. It's driving me crazy!!!!
