My 2000 Xterra 3.3 was running great, then sitting a stop light tonight it kinda stumbles a little then dies. It started back up and I was able to make it home but it wanted to cut out some a I drove home. As long as it wasn't under a real load it seem to run pretty good. I got home let it sit for a bit then went back out to check on it, it will start fine and idled good except at one point it wanted to stumble and act up briefly then returned to a good idle. If I put it in gear and hold the brake while giving it some throttle it will idle up a bit then start to break down or stumble, kinda like what a plug wire would do. I'm not getting an engine light, so any quess as to where I should start first. It has 104k on it and I bought it used so I don't know any history on it. Just wondering if the fuel pump could be acting up or could it be a clogged filter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced!!!

I changed fuel filter and no luck. It runs fine until it warms up then it starts acting up. Still no engine light. Anybody else ever had this problem? Gonna check the plugs wires and things like that.

I think my problem is coming from the distributor, I've been hearing noise near the distributor (kinda crackling/knocking sound or something like that). I've come to discover it doesn't have a coil pack or external coil. It's all in the distributor, so I've pulled it out after noticing that the rotor button kinda looks like it might be rubbing a little. After taking it out I now believe I know where that noise at the top of the engine was coming from. It looks like the distributor bearings are bad, this seems to be a common problem with these. Anybody else experienced this? Once I put a new distributor in I'll report back!
