Ok i just bought those test pipes and I went right away and tried to install them. So I had little trouble doing that with the car being lifted by a jack. And then I found out that all the studs from the cats are rusted and had to be cut of. So I got lazy and went to a local mechanic shop to get it done.Thinking that its going to be easier to do with the car being lifted by a lift.So like i said I went to the shop and I knew that owner a little and my friend worked for him. I asked for the price of taking Cats out and putting in the test pipes in which should take about 20 min the most....

So this is what the dude says to me... and i quote"WELL ITS A 03 INFINITI SO ITS HARD TO DO....(MUMBLING) AND THEN YOU NEEED TO ......(PAUSE OF SILENCE AND MUMBLING) UMMM ILL SAY LITTLE OVER 200$."I looked at him, said thank you and walked away. Im not 80 yr old lady that they could tell her that there is a tiny unicorn in the pipes and its punching holes in the mufflers and ****ting in filters, they had to replace the roof cuz it was peeling off.Thank you for not fu**ing me big time Mr mechanic.I guess ill have to do it myself now......thanks for reading guys, I just wanted to get this out. Ill just come back there next week and throw a brick at his window...

Get a set of ramps from Autozone for $35

It takes a long time because the bolts are hard to get off...

Im an AmeriCAN not an AmeriCAN'T that loves country music

1+

That really helps.. Just did a Complete Brake OverHaul on my jeep and replaced everything. Brake pads, Calipers, All hard and rubber brake lines, Connectors, Mastercylinder, Brake Booster, Upgraded the Rear brakes from Drums to Disks from a Grand Cherokee. The only part original is the pedal lol.

All the brake lines and bleeder screws were rusted shut so i used some liquid wrench and it really helped

Just my .02

It's not a rip off, they have to pay the overhead of running a shop. Mind you also, what you are asking that shop owner to do is a federal crime. So if he is charging you $200 to break the law, and taking a risk of a $2500 fine, as well as doing the manual labor for you, I don't think he is asking too much.

Good Stuff!

OR, a brick! Make sure you get a VID of you doing it and post on youtube for us to see!!!

And, I'm with Beaner, $200 isn't really that much considering what they are risking.

My muffler, K&N SS tip, and install cost me $150 at a shop in LA.

Noah is right about the legal part though. If it were my shop, I'd yell at you and tell you to move to Mexico!

Just make friends with the mechanics at the Infiniti dealer. I have a friend who works their and he put my test pipes on for $50. The way the bolts are located make it tough to do yourself, I tried.

mtdive,

Your avatar seems drunk, or it is humping a barrell, or it is shivering in the cold. Which is it?

You guys are 100% right... it is illeagal, but thats why I went to a guy that I know a little. So its illegal then you say no bro I cant do it and thats it. Dont come up with that price, 200 bucks is 2 much cuz it takes 15 min to do that. They charged me 85$ to change my Borla exhaust. But then on the other hand, its not illegal to do that if the car is not being used as a everyday drive. All I have to do is have the car towed to any shop and have do it and say it that its a car made for TRACK....

I went to another show across the street from this one next day and the dude said he will do it for 50bucks but next week...But Ill do l this myself now, Just like some members said here that its simple so ill even save that 50$. Its just that Im a lazy guy and I dont even feel like washing my car. I let my wife do it for me or just go to a carwash....alright guys thanks for reading and giving ur opinions....

ralphieboy out....

how much money to tow it to the shop, worth the $200 b/c it would be more to tow it. Also for $50 have them do it b/c the bolts are located in a tough position and you need to remove the steering column. I used pb blaster and I still couldn't get the easy to reach bolts loose.

It's all a matter of finding a shop that'll do it for you. Like my mid-pipe, I spent hours trying to get the bolts off and couldn't. I went to several shops and mechanics wanted to charge me 150$+ for labor. I found this mom and pop exhaust shop that did it for 40$!
