today, the temperature hit -27 degrees, and with windchill at -47

and i parked my car in a parking lot (somewhat wind blocking parkinglot)

when i went to start my car (parked for about 8 hours) my car made the GAYEST, MOST DISGUSTING, noise in the world

it was like metal clanking/rattling REALLY loud for about 5 seconds, then it was gone

THEN THEN THEN...

My 6 cd changer wont change cds now, and i think it mite have damaged something inside, cause when i click a different cd, it would not respond (no cd changing noise), then if you click the orignal cd you were on, it would play, but have this annoying scratching noise

Clutch and brakes would not function that great, it would pop up slower then usual, especially the clutch

good luck to those who live in a cold region...cause this is just bad, i can see the cd player jamming, but damn when i started my car, i was scared it would blow up or something ****

that sucks...i drove in the snow for the first time yesterday...(it had never snowed when i lived in NOR CAL) and it did quiet well in the snow...but i never drove in some crazy -27 degree weather though

trade places for a day, you would hate it so much you wouldnt want to go outside

yesterday it was warm... around -2 or so.. not its friggen -27 not counting wind

id suggest those who dont have a A/C dont buy one if you live in a cold region, or one that changes alot

honestly i have not been so paranoid with the cold until this car things seem to go wrong when its cold...clutch, cd player, windows (normal for alot of cars), bad starting noise...

and last of all REALLY BAD IN SNOW! seriously, if you live in my area where it snows alot, and hten gets warm quick, and gets cold even faster, therefore black ice... the tires are not made for Calgary, and i am too poor to buy new tires, so all i can do is drive with 100% effort and drive like a granny

sorry for those who dont agree with me, you may come to Calgary and have a spin...hope you have good winter tires...or may god be with u

Wow, -27. It's -4 here, but it's not so bad right now. I hope it doesn't worst. I wonder if they did any testing of the A/C against the cold.

With temps like that you need a block or "dipstick" heater...also many electronics like cd players arent going to want to work in those temps till they warmup some..IMO

Well, I live in Edmonton and it was -35 without windchill today... crazy, I know. The car will start alot easier when it's plugged in, that's why block heaters are standard on the A/C. As for tires, I don't drive in the winter anymore without winter tires, I say save up and buy a good set, it makes a whole world of difference, can't recommend them enough. The clutch and brakes being slow is because the master cylinder fluid and brake fluid are really thick in the cold, it's alot better when the car has warmed up for a while. Alot of cars have problems with cd players not working in the cold, don't know why that is.I hate the cold too!!! the only good thing is I can go snowboarding 20 minutes away. If you live in Calgary, you can go boarding in the mountains just a couple hours away.

I disagree and I live in quebec.

My coupe is a winter destroyer.

quebec is different from calgary

it snows today, then it warms up tomorrow, and freezes at night and then snows again the next next day creating terrible terrible black ice

calgary sucks i cant emphasize enough, its terribly hard to explain the roads until your actually on it

i envy those who live in cali or hawaii (not referring to anyone on nico.. )

Block heater must be standard for certian regions of the country, cause mine sure doesn't have it. My area is buffered by the atlantic so it doesn't ever really get colder then +5 F

Well, here in Hawaii is was a freezing 84 degrees yesterday, and the temp dropped into the mid 60's last night

BTW -27°C, right? Here in the states we go by Fahrenheit.

-27°C = -16.6°F

I feel sorry for our Canadian friends up north.

In those temps a block heater would be a must as well as synthetic oil. I have been in cold temps like that and the car I had behaved the same way because all the fluids were thick because of the cold. Starter was very sluggish, clutch would not work well. Once you got it started you could speed the rpm's up and down by 200-300 just by depressing/releasing the clutch until gear oil began to warm up.Most all electronics will act up at those extremes.

Make sure you have your thick winter jacket ready...that's freezing. Here in Cali, it's been pouring last week with temps of 50-60F.

Yeah, ive been to calgary, imfrom toronto. It does suck out in the cold but i had an even worse experience.

My car wouldnt start period. It was only like - 16C i beleive. It just didnt start. Beat that!

+ The TURANZAS are GARBAGE!!! They are the worst worst tires in the world. Putting turanzas on the A/C lowers its overall potential by 50%.

I`m in Northern Alberta and right now it`s -46 Celcius.I drove my wife to work this morning and found that after driving for about 15 min,the clutch was very stiff like everything was freezing up.Forgot to mention that the wind is only blowing 6km/hr so much of a wind chill.

shheeessshhh what would you move like if you stood outside for 8 hours in those temps. Any vehicle I have ever owned 12 new ones since 94 and none of them liked to run cold at that temp . without being plugged in yes they all started . And as for the CD player none of them on any of the other vehicles wanted to work . Hell the display won't even change like normal . So lets get real and be fair . You can't fault the A/C when any vehicle will exhibit charecteristics like you described in extreme temps like you have described. Oh and BTW Prince George has been in a cold spell -32 and I still love my Coupe .

I am also in Edmonton, -28 to -32 here... I find the handling in the snow (CVT) not bad for a sports coupe. I previously owned a Prelude. The clearance is definitely alot better on the A/C so I wasn't volunteering to be a snow plow.

But when i started my coupe in the cold -- same thing; sounded like metal clanking on metal. And today it seems my external thermometer has fried/broken... its just reading 3 dashes - - -

I sure hope nothing else is going to go wrong!

metal clanking is definetly not a "normal" cold reaction, since its a 3 month new car

my dads BMW 335xi turns on like normal, we both parked for 10 hours and in the SAME garage.... both not plugged in, he has no problems with cd player or other stuff...

i find it that the A/C is lacking detailed tweaks, i love it, but still i cant stand how a new car would be like this...imagine 5 years, 10 years later?!?! you have to understand this is my first new car, i drove a 95 integra before and it didnt make this type of noise or electrical jams/problems...

im just saying wat is true for my case, im not saying that all the A/C is bad, but some of the stuff is just disapointing...maybe im too picky cause i cant change cds, and now i cant even play the cd it was orginally on

Metal clanking noise is probably the timing chain, if its really cold out you'll hear it rattling for a second or two.

Couldn't agree more.If you live in Calgary, you KNOW what the winters are going to be like, so be smart about it. Use synthetic oil, get some winter tires for Pete's sake, and stop complaining that your CD player won't spin at -30C. And finally, plug in your block heater. By the way, the point of the block heater is to reduce wear and tear on the engine. Yes the car will probably start without it, but you would be doing your engine a big favour by plugging it in. Think about it.Lastly, in regard to wind chill, you probably already know that inanimate objects, like cars, do not feel wind chill. If it's -25C, and the wind chill is -35C, the car will still only cool to -25C. It does not get any colder than the surrounding temperature. Wind chill can only be felt by, or affect, living organisms (like people).

You can't really single out the A/C as being terrible to start inthe cold, when at current Calgary temps of around -30 it applies to almost every car.As for Calgary winter while you guys hate it i love it , get to do doughnuts in the parking lots hehe, and laugh at all the people that get stuck.

The external temp will read as far as -30 celcius then those 3 --- appear.
