My friend used a branch to see if there was gas in my tank and it broke off. I was wondering what problems may occur or is possible the piece got stuck before entering the tank.

Likely nothing, I wouldn't worry about it unless you get issues. Assuming it was small enough in diameter to not block the hole off, gas will simply run around it. Better if it falls completely into the tank.
