The other day we had some snow. I cleared the windshield and ran the wipers and shut the car off so they would stay in the middle of the windshield. Today when I got in and started the car I failed to see that a chunk of ice had slid down from the roof and prevented the wipers from moving all the way to the park position. It blew a fuse and I though no big deal I will stop by the store and get another one. I replaces it and immediately it blew again. It will blow with the wipers turned off and the ignition key turned to accessories. Did I fry the park circuit in the wiper motor? Any idea how much this is going to cost at the dealers?

I vaguely remember the motor being expensive - but they rarely fail, so I'd lean towards used on this part. Call Joe at Scottsdale (1-888-216-5328) for the best new price, but you might also check out http://www.car-part.com for used. There should be literally thousands of them out there - someone will sell it cheap.

Have you tried unplugging the motor to see if that eliminates the short?

Welcome to NICO! It's good to see all of the new faces around here lately!

Where is the wiper motor? I only quickly glanced last night (in the dark) is it exposed on the firewall for the car?

Its on the passenger side of the firewall, right near the ABS unit....

Id also look into unplugging it, and seeing if you can move the wipers around.... Maybe it just needs to reset.... id move them around (if you can) and see what that gives you!

Is there a relay in that circuit? If that is stuck it could cause your problem.

I have not had a chance to unplug it but I do remember being able to move the wipers around without much trouble. I am going to give it a try tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks for the info

I tired unplugging the wiper motor, moved the wipers they were easy, not in any bind, changed the fuse and no difference. Blows as soon as you turn the key. I guess I will try and find a wiper motor in the junk yard. Is this basically a un-bolt and bolt on type of fix?

Try swapping that relay with another of the same type from the cruise control or something. It's a lot easier and cheaper to replace a stuck relay.

The cruise control relay is in the engine compartment box, and the wiper relay is real close to the motor....

Square blue object close to wiper motor and the other is where the main fuses are? Did I get that correct?

I just checked my service manual and the relay near the wiper motor is for the starter. The wiper motor doesn't appear to have a relay, but does use an amplifier that is just forward of the motor. If you know anyone else that has a Q, it would be easy to swap out amplifiers before tackling the motor. It might be worth having an auto electric shop trace the problem, as it could be a wiring short that would be tough to trace yourself.

I am having the same problem as you with my 96 Sentra GLE. Did you fix the problem? I replaced the wiper motor, wiper column switch, and I unplugged the amplifier/relay. When I unplugged the amplifier, the wipers worked for a bit on high and low, but not on delay. Shortly after, the wipers started blowing fuses as soon as the key was turned. If the wiper motor was not plugged in, the fuse would not blow. Were you able to fix your problem?

I put a used wiper motor from the junk yard in and that took care of the problem
