You should be able to get a lot of feedback on the retail edition soon. TONS of people should have free copies coming to them soon (myself included).I'll be updating as soon as my copy arrives. Funny, I was actually comparing SSD drive prices a little earlier for this same reason.

I'm using the final version of 7 enterprise x64 (through my company's volume licensing, since they were made available @ RTM) on 3 desktops and 3 laptops. Won't look back. I have a few finicky apps, but now that XP Mode is final as well that sorted everything out without being dependent on running a vmware XP vm in the background w/ unity. And the only apps I've had to do that for are for VMware vSphere/VCenter administration! :P

If you don't think you will come across a free copy let me know and I'll probably have to go buy it.

I'm definitely getting a free copy...but only one. Most anyone who bought a computer with Vista or even Vista itself after May (I think) this year was eligible to register with MS for a free upgrade to the equivalent Windows 7 package. The new PC I bought this summer was eligible, so I've got a legal boxed copy of Windows 7 coming to me in the mail from MS soon. I'm not sure how fast the shipping will be, but it won't actually ship until launch day.

Yeah I'm having the worst time copying my old computer's HDD to my new computer's HDD. It's imaged fine and works in my old computer, but plug it into the new computer and window's won't load. I've been fighting with it for forever and since W7 comes with Media Center and has other HTPC friendly things, I think I'm just gonna have to break down and buy it.

Newegg has an OEM 64bit home premium for 99.99 & free shipping.
