I want to tint my car windows. My Infiniti dealer tells me that they will do it for C$500 (Canadian dollar = US$444) with a lifetime warrenty.

Does anyone have any experience with window tinting?1) Does Infiniti dealer do a good job? Or should I go to a 3rd party company?2) What is the usual price?3) Some of the do-it-yourself tinting kits only cost $80 for all the windows, how easy is it to do it? (Big price difference here).

That is a bit high, but not a bad price per se for rear and four side windows. I got my older Q45 rear and two rear sides done for about $250 as I recall. I have not done the M45 I currently have ... was fairly satisfied with the factory tint levels.

Yes! I have pictures of my older Q that I have posted before ...

Most good third-party places will do a good job ... I was not aware that Infiniti dealerships would do this (some of the hot climate area dealers probably have arrangements with third-party places though).

Be careful of the small shops though. Not all have the best labor and best results. Ask to see their handiwork before you proceed - see a car being done.

I'd say a very good job, with normal tint material (not the expensive stuff like HuperOptik) would cost about $300 to $400 for rear and four windows.

Yeah, but the results will be way less than what you would want. Not surprisingly, it is not an easy job for curved glass surfaces, although side windows that are flatter might be easier. I have seen DYI kits that looked terrible - bubbles and poor quality edge treatments.

The last thing you want on a beautiful car like yours would be a poor tint result! So, I would strongly advise going to a pro!

After I did some research, I decided not to tint my windows at the Infiniti dealer:1) they use a 3rd part tinting service, so there is no way to know what you are getting, because the guy at Infiniti has no idea himself.2) Inifiniti charge a middle man fee to you, may be to the 3rd party installer.3) Many specialized companies are available, where you can see the products before installation. 4) Other companies offer lifetime warranty for their best products, but Inifinit will not, I guess because they have no idea what product they sell to you. 5) There is no benefit to get it from Infiniti because it is not under the new car warranty anyway, who want an anonymous person to do the work? God know who Infiniti will contract out next year?

Prices I got from local tinting companies were $249-299 for all the windows (except the fron winshield), best products with lifetime warranty against fading, colour change, cracks and peeling.

Never trust your dealer to give you a good deal on 3rd party!

Mine was $195 with lifetime warranty all 4 windows and back. They used the Sun-Guard Endurance film. I am very happy with the results.

Be advised that most plastic tint films WILL bubble, crack, and peel after a few years. Lifetime warranty covers NEW tint, but NOT removal of old film. THAT is expensive, ask me how I know. Also most plastic films scratch easily, and require special cleaners and great care in cleaning.

I suggest using the best ceramic type film. I think HuperOptik may be one. That way you can have it done and forget about it. Costs more, but worth it in the long run.

Anyone else here have experience with HuperOptik or other ceramic tint coatings?

Huper Optik Stark 30 for best infra red heat rejection and durability.

Even scotch tape affords UV protection.

Just avoid anything with phosphorous in it. Stoner's Invisible Glass is a great, tint-safe product.
