I experienced a strange "rattling" noise coming from the right side where the front winshield pillar meets the dashboard. For the longest time I thought it came from the pillar cover, which was a bit loose.it turns out it was the plactic cowl/cover outside at the bottom of the front windshield. There is one large piece where the wipers are and two corner pieces at each side. All three pieces have some movement in them and dirt collects underneath it causing all sorts of noises when it gets warmer. I cleaned everything and used some silicone spray and quiet as a mouse.

Sorry cant take any pics as I am sick at home. Just check out the outside cowl at the bottom of the windshield. There are 3 pieces, two corner pieces and the centre piece where the wipers are. There is movement in all 3 pieces and all I did is use a screwdriver to get under the pieces to remove any debris and sprayed silicone spray underneath the pieces and where ever the pieces touch eachother. I found when the weather warmed up there was a lot of squeaks coming from this area.

i could of sworn the noise is coming from inside the car, but it rained a lot overnight, and the noise was gone today.. so it may be something outside the car afterall..

i will check these plastic windshield pieces today.

Man, I seem to be posting new issues with my Rogue far too often on here for my liking, but.....I think I'll share because this really was no fun and if and when others have this problem I'd like to help them solve it.

I went on a road trip this weekend with my wife and daughter, 2 hours each way, around -10 deg. celcius. On the way back, my daughter had just fallen asleep when all of a sudden a crazy loud rattling noise started from the front windshield cowl area. It was hard platic rattling against a solid surface such as the windshield. And it didn't let up.....the whole way home, about 90 minutes of this with an occaissonal bit of silence mixed in.

When I got home, I checked the plastic cowl at the base of the wipers and windshield, and nothing seemed obviously loose or out of place. There is pretty wide tolerances on this part, big gaps etc. where wind could get in and if I push on it I could definately reproduce the sound. I was just confused as to why it started making noise so abruptly and why it was so loud.

Anyway, I'm going to mess around with it tonight, maybe try to insert some foam tap in the gaps but I'm sure it's not going to be a fun project. I'm sure this is the culpret, based on the previous posts here. It's definately not the squeeling from the roof rack which I also get if the wind is at the right angle and velocity, but that I can live with.

Will let everyone know if i'm successful, so hopefully others don't have to duplicate my efforts if they have the same problem.

I had this problem and have the solution. 1. Remove the wipers2. Remove the cowl at the base of the windshield and the corner trim at both ends of the cowl which just snaps in place. To remove cowl you need to remove the pawl connectors with a small screwdriver.3. Once you remove the cowl you will see the problem. All kinds of crap get trapped under the cowl and causes all kinds of sounds when in motion that gets amplified by the windshield.4. Once surfaces were clean and dry, I ran a strip of peel and stick foam across the entire length of the cowl and reinstalled. This accomplishes 2 things. It insulates the cowl from the windshield and keeps out the road dirt. Its been almost a year since I did this and all is fine

I'm having the same problem except it's coming from the drivers side. It seems like the sound is coming from the instrument panel. Every time I go over a bump I would hear a plastic rattle. Any ideas if this could be noise coming from the cowl?

Hey I too have this strange plastic rattle noise sound when I go over some bumps, the bumps have to be consecutive for the sound to manifest. The sound is like a plastic piece hitting a plastic interior piece, i've looked every where, checked the glove compartment made sure everything is secure and checked the cargo at the back, I checked everything, well almost everything. One Sunny winter day while going over some bumps and I can hear that plastic rattle I decided to take out my sunglasses on the glass holder overhead, well what a discovery ! its the sunglass thats making the noise, rattling with the built in plastic glass holder. I've since removed my sunglasses from there and so far no more rattle noise.

I have also experienced the same problem and just like you I have realized it was my sunglasses that were making the noise.

However, this time I'm sure it's coming from the instrument gages area and like others have stated I think it might be due to the debris that is caught up in the cowl.

Can anyone post up pictures as to how to take the cowl apart to clean and seal it?

It sounds like we may have identified a bit of a design flaw here, something which will affect more owners over time as the vehicles age and more debris collects in this area.

That being the case, I think a "How To" with photos would be great idea to help a lot of owners eliminate a potentially frustrating situation. The fix should be quite simple but almost impossible to diagnose and fix on your own without the guidance of those who have already solved the problem.

Anyone want to take on this challenge, just a few photos and text? Or if you are going to tackle this, take photos and send to me and I can put together the article? Otherwise I plan to do this in the spring at which time I can create the How To........let me know if you can help out!!

I had a rattle in high wind and lighter speed. Sounded like it was coming from Passenger side dash or glove box. I tried everything I could think of including any suggestions here without success.
Finally a looked at the plastic cover on the outside of the passenger side A Pillar. I could see some looseness around the seal attached to the plastic. I used a screw driver to pry open the gap and put some automotive weather strip adhesive under the strip. All the way up and down on the pillar. That fixed it. Total quiet finally.
