Wierd "CLUNK" sound....

yeah!! I noticed that too...I think it was the Air conditioner...but I turned it off, and it still did it, like every 10-15 secons or so, not REAL loud, just a mild clunk sound, like something was tapping on the hood, for the inside!

i started noticing it when it got hotter...maybe it is the air conditioner but i dont think it should be making that sound....

No, that clunk (I think this is what you are refering to) when you first turn on the car and drive like 20 feet, is the ABS self-check. Someone chime in if im wrong on that. But that one is normal.

As for what the OP is talking about, I have no idea.

that I know about, and no, I had just gotten home from the store, and was going over some receipts while sitting in my car with the AC on, and noticed it, car had been running for 10 mins already at least. I turned off the AC, but it still did it. Car runs fine, no problems, so, prolly just the engine or computer doing something I guess.

this hapens to me if i drive my car and put it in park, like 40 seconds later it sounds like a loud clunk i always wonder what it is lol i thought i had defected a/c

I get the ABS check, but I have never had this frequent clunking that you all are talking about.

We just had this discussion on the other forum last week or so. Mine does it as well and it only seems to happen on the 2.5 It will clunk when idling or recently after turning off the car. To help describe the sound to those that haven't heard it, it sounds like the exhaust expanding (popping) only much louder than a normal exhaust should. Someone on the other forum had taken their sedan in for this sound numerous times and the dealer was un-able to find the source until recently. They said it was an improperly attached heat-shield; which one I'm not sure of and I haven't had a chance to take mine in either.

I can however attest that my 2.5 does this too and its a loud enough sound to not be considered normal, its embarrassing to be sitting idling in a drive-thru going "CLUNK" every so often. I've had passengers ask "What was that" while waiting at a traffic light. As far as I can tell there is no set interval for it either. I've heard it mostly while idling either at a red-light, sitting parked, after just turning off the car, or waiting in line at a drive-thru; However I have heard it while driving once or twice. What makes it worse is not only is the sound loud, but I can feel it too.

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I FEEL.and i feel it come from the center bottom of my car. wtf?? should we get them checked out then and if so,would warranty cover that??

Mine feels as though its knocking on the floor pan underneath the console or dash. It could be from under the hood but it just seems more like under the cabin. Wherever it is coming from; yes it should be covered under warranty. Hopefully your dealer can diagnose it on the first try but since there isn't any set interval for it to happen it might just be a chance encounter. I tried video-taping it once and just standing next to the car with the camera was enough for it to shut-up and not do it. If you can drive around it get it to start doing it more regularly before taking it in to the service dept at least you might be able to get the service rep to hear and acknowledge it.

I have a 3.5 and i have the same problem. After you drive and you've come to a stop and you listen to the car idle, you hear something like coolant bubbling over and at the same time that same sound, sounds like a low pitched knocking going on with something under the hood... i hear it sometimes in my trailblazer SS also.. but its more obvious in the altima. it doesn't sound normal but it i assume it is given that i experienced the noise in both my vehicles.
