I rebuilt my ka24de engine, it came out of my 94 altima. I put new rings, seals and gaskets in it. it will idle fine but as it gets hot. the timing gos from 20 to 25 to 30 btds till it stops running. and if i try to set the timing when its hot, it will only go back to 25 btds before i run out of adjustment on the distributer. iv checked the ingnition module and got new plug wires. the compresion is at 150psi theres no codes. any one have any idea of what to look at next?

could something be increasing the resistance in the ingnition system when it gets hot? or a lose ground?

my opinion is this is more of a timing issue then an ignition issue. If the car runs fine after just starting it means you have proper spark and time. but as an engine warms up the timing changes a little due to different condititons. main sensors(i think the source of this) that are involved with timing are CKP and the CMP, i would check the crank position sensor the most though as well as the toothed wheel it monitors. that would be a start but maybe someone else has a better idea?? hope this helps

I was talking to someone about this problem of yours. He suggested that you make sure the distributer isnt off by a tooth or two. bring cyl#1 to tdc and take the cap off and point the arm at the cyl#1 spark plug wire on the cap. try that first and maybe that will fix it if it was wrong. i still doubt it's extra resistance in the ign.

Ok I checked the distributer and it looks off. I got some pics and vid but i dont see how you post them? but it looks like with the rotor is past the #1 point in the cap. so. my next question is can one change the position of the cam gears with out taking off the top timing cover and just remove the valve cover?

dont do that. the distributer has that "arm" that contacts the cap where the wires connect, simply bring the cyl #1 to top dead ctr and move the distributer arm right where the cyl #1 wire is on the cap. that will fix the problem if you did the timing belt right. if there still is a problem maybe then you need to check the timing belt. but make sure the wires are on the right spark plugs ok?
