Went to fill up my Rogue for first time, gas pump kept shutting off! It was so annoying that I only got 1.39 gal of gas in before I had it with (not) pumping gas in the MN cold. I think another gallon ended up on the side of the car and the ground.

What am I doing wrong? I've been pumping gas for 12 years now and done just fine with my Honda's?!?!?! THis is my first Nissan..

My wife was just sitting in the car and watching me lose it!

My 04 G35, 04 350Z, and 07 G35S do this on occasion. The 04 G35 did it VERY often. The dealer was replacing people's gas tanks to fix the problem, but mine sort of went away as the car got older.

Gas pumps are designed to shut off automatically when the gas level reaches the nozzle. So the most likely reason why you are experiencing the shut off is due to the angle of the nozzle. You could be spraying against the wall of the filler neck causing splash back. The nozzle is detecting that splash back and thinks the tank is full.

Did you try different angles or pulling the nozzle out slightly? Did you try a different gas station? Maybe the nozzle design of that particular gas station just doesn't work well with the Rogue.

I tried a different station last night, and it worked good there. I still don't know if I got a completely full tank (i think i did). I was just below 1/2 tank and I got about 8 gallons in it.

On the gas gauge the first 'block' disapeared at about 30miles, is that typical?

To have the first bar disappear after 30 miles is normal in my Rogue SL AWD. I have gone as far as 45 before the first bar disappears, but that is with topping off the tank and I know I'm not supposed to do that as I have heard that with the vapor assist system, it sucks in a lot of the fuel being used to top off. Not sure if that is fact or fiction, but I tried it anyway and I did get about 15 miles more

Well each block counts as about a gallon, so 30 mpg sounds good to me.

That's just about as unscientific of an estimate as possible. Gas gauges are very inconsistent because gas sloshes around, etc. Also, in most cars the first bar lasts longer because people top-off to various amounts.

I'd recommend pulling the nozzel out of the opening just a little bit. That ususally does the trick on most vehicles.

i've had this happen before on several cars, the trick is not to fully squeeze the lever to pump the gas. just likestepping on the gas pedal, you can control how fast and how much fuel flows into the tank. it makes the pump work slower so as not to get an backsplashes. takes a bit longer but it certainly gets the hassle of having to press it over and over.

That's funny, I had the same problem the first time I filled my Rogue up, but never thought anything about it!
