ok before we get into the whole "cause its a sweet ride, its rear wheel drive, drift" thing I would really like strong information. I am getting ready to buy another car. I have been looking at the honda preludes. I was on my way to work and a 240 just blew past me. I know he was rolling fast cause I had to haul *** to pass him. that got me thinking about the 240. first and foremost i like the styling of the 89-93 (im pretty sure those are the years) the later ones are nice too though. what exactly am i looking for in the engine department. there doesnt seem to be a whole lot of information out on the web. i want a 5 speed. as far as the engine goes what are the factory engines to look for or stay away from. are they DOHC? the ka24 what exactly is the setup and what is the potential of this engine. are the factory engines workable or should i just figure on going straight with the sr20? and finally the car as a whole... is it a good car? reliable? not parking it in the garage every weekend cause something is broke. i have a talon tsi now and i love the car it just breaks every time i turn around. i know its a lot to digest at one time but any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Well, going from a TSI to a 240 you might notbe all that impressed with the stock HP. But, you won't have the car up on blocks every weekend fixing something new. The KA is a very stout, strong engine. It is a torque monster (as far as 4cyl. engines go) and has huge potential. Stock internals are good for reasonable boost if you decide to go the turbo KA route. The SR is a pretty good engine (it is a factory engine BTW... your post sounded like you might have thought it was something else) and can hold reasonable and even excessive boost on stock internals.

The early models you are looking at (s13) are uglay as hell and suck really bad. You should buy a newer s14! (just kidding guys:D )

Beyond that... use the search feature... it's there for your enjoyment. Any specific questions that you can't find answers to then maybe we can help!

The 240 is pretty much the only affordable contemporary compact out there that has RWD, other than the Miata (which is a highly under rated car, but its somewhat girly). Ofcourse, I could be wrong... Anyways, to get to the point... RWD is better than FWD, because when you launch your car will be pushing itself instead of pulling. Also handling is a LOT better than in a FWD. However, RWD is for more experinced drivers.

I forgot to add two more cars to the list of affordable RWD compacts. FC3S RX-7, AE86 Corolla.

hey, what's up man, I have a 96 eclipse gst, I know what you mean by it breaking down everytime you turn around. in my case it's kinda an exaggeration. It's been ok, but a couple of problems have pissed me off, capped by my new timing belt coming off. ($1k!) I like how 240's look, and going to an rx-7 is gonna put me right back in the situation I'm in now, (badass car, when it works) so it's really the only logical, affordable rwd sport compact out there. now I just need to find one.....

Xtrem: No sales pitch necessary. Just drive both...spiritedly, and you'll get your answer. The test ride is what sold me on a 240 over a prelude. Not that prelude is a POS. It's a very nice car too. A 240's strength is not it's straight line acceleration, but its chassis/handling. You want straightline acceleration only, there are much faster cars out there than a 240 or a prelude. The 240 engines, both DOHC and SOHC are all bulletproof. Very reliable. It all depends on what you want from your car. Good luck
