Also, I upgraded the laptop. I'm currently running two 256GB SSDs in Raid 0. 16GB DDR3. Bluetooth, BluRay Drive, Fingerprint reader and Verizon 5720.

Chat support? And you need all that?

Are you really hosting a mobile p0rn site and using your laptop as the server, jumping from network to network as you travel around?

Hehe, this is my personal system...

I use it to play games honestly.

I felt like maxing this sucker out just for fun

I'm thinking an i7 965 system with 24GB DDR3, 4 256GB SSDs in raid 0, 3 295GTXs in tri-sli, and a pair of 30" monitors for a desktop...

Why? I dunno... I get stuff dirt cheap.

I'll unhide my email address for 6 hours... Grab it and shoot me an email.

I can get lots of cool stuff if that's what you're looking for.

Lets not discuss details here. Contact me on my email.

Games? Show me a game that uses 4GB of RAM? 8GB would be the sweet-spot for a gaming rig, 16 is an outright waste. And why did you buy a rig with a Quadro (IE: not that great for gaming) when Dell owns Alienware and you have equal access to those?

965s aren't the fastest anymore, nor are the 256GB drives... you can't Tri-SLI 295s (Even if you could, it would scale like crap since most of the time the 4th GPU in a Quad-SLI [dual-295] setup sits practically @ idle?), and with 24GB of memory you'd be running your memory pretty slow since they'd be 4GB sticks.

Why not wait for the Core i9s and Nvidia's 300-series? And for what?

If all you're doing is a few games, you're spending money needlessly, regardless of "how cheap you can get it." You might as well go buy a Ferrari and tow it around on a trailer, because that's what you're doing with the hardware you've mentioned.

It was Free

Also, the Quadro is slightly faster then the 9800m GTX. It works very well

I'm waiting on the arrival on a i7-975. I know you can't currently tri-SLI the 295s, but this is a software limitation, not hardware. You could do an SLI with a seperate card. 4GB sticks are typically at 1066, but that is still plenty fast. Most of these memory boosts only show an improvement on benchmarks.

What drives are faster now? I personally like instant loads. That's why I chose the SSDs in a Raid 0.
Micron wrote:Why not wait for the Core i9s and Nvidia's 300-series? And for what?
I could do that. I haven't read up on it, are they changing the socket when going to the i9s? That has always been one of the bad things for Intel. They don't care about upgrade paths like AMD.

I'll definately add a 300 series when the time is right. Currently, a single GTX295 will suit my needs. A second is just icing on the top.

Eh, it's all a matter of perspective. Everyone has different hobbies. Some people buy guns, some modify cars, some modify electronics. These are all expensive hobbies. Is any one more important then the other?

I agree, they are all a waste of money after a certain point, but it's still fun as hell

Wow! They came through on time.... LOL. Most of the projections that we received internally would always be 3~6 months off.

Good call Micron!

I'm happy about it! I'm privy to the product release cycles and ongoing R&D within the business divisions.

Today I ordered:

M6500 CovetCore i7 920XMQuadro 3800M8GB 1600 DDR3 (For now)Intel 5130 Wifi/WiMaxGobi for AT&T 3GFIPS fingerprintBD-RAnd a piddly little mechanical HDD... Cuz I've ordered a pair of Intel X25-M 160GB G2s, rather than the rebadged Sammys Dell typically uses.

It doesn't have quite the capabilities of my M6400 due to having half the RAM, but once the 1600 modules are available in 4GB densities I'll upgrade accordingly and the 6400 won't hold a candle!

Very nice setup

How do the intel drives compare to the samsungs? I currently get 440MBps read speeds using a 32MB read length.

That i7 is dead effing sexy!!!

That system set you back like $8k! What do you do with yours again?

And was the M6400 actually at its limits?

The Samsungs are nice in their price and capacity, however on EVERYTHING else the Intel drives stomp them.

MSRP-wise, the system should have set me back around $8140... But I paid much, much less. One of the companies I own is a Dell partner/reseller.

EDIT: Forgot to say what I do with it... Tons of virtualization. Everything from Server 2008 through Linux and Solaris. Plus software development, CAD, GIS and content editing/creation. Whatever project I'm working on at the time...

I just sold my M6400. No warranty at all. Ended up with $2900.

I am thinking of getting an actual gaming laptop this time.

It's hard to decide though. i like the units based off the D900F. They use a desktop i7. I can get a i7-975 for next to nothing. That would be a wicked machine!

I think i'll end up with an Asus though. I like the 5870 they offer, and it's $1600!!!

I'm running an Acer 5720z - Intel Pentium Dual CPU 2330 @ 1.67MHz, 2.99GB DDR2 Ram, Intel Extreme Graphics, Realtek HD Audio, 160GB HDD (+200GB and 120GB external drives), ThermalTake 120MM under chassis fan (hardwared to the OEM fan - both stay on high speed mode 24/7) - WinXPpro SP3.

Only thing not working on this POS is the WebCam (internally damaged plug - $60 to fix - so I didn't).

Edit: forgot to add that I run USB KB and 5 button mouse, hate the touchpad thing, and my hands are too big for the tiny keys on the lappy keyboard.

I'm also on Brighthouse with Cable Internet (fairly fast, but unreliable as heck)...

Not bad. The GTX260's still quite a respectable little card. With mine I hover in the 50-70 fps range in Crysis (with an i7 920, though considering how GPU-limited the game is I doubt that makes much difference versus your Phenom).

I have an older N52 (they had problems with key action/resistance that were resolved in the te model) but I rarely use it as the lack of a row of keys above the "w" row is a real killer in most games. Plus my G15 has fantastic key action, so I really have no desire to use anything else.

Ya i love my gtx260, and now whish i owuld have purchased x2 when i got(durring xmas last year at best buy was 160, last i checked was back up to 230+) The largest reason i picked it up was issues i was having playing ago of conan, ie fps in the teens with my old ati xt850pro)

As for my belkin hehe i still have my "old version", but upgraded when i installed win7, seems there were alot of issues with the sw, and incompatabilites :P, i love my belkin te, and it's swappability between puters, ie my desktop and laptop.
I tried a few other pads, but in the end i liked the comfort and feel of the belkin. I started using back with wow, i was into pvp, and having quick access to my spells was paramount. since then ive never looked back. I have never had problems with lack of keys, between the thumpad, and alt keybinding im in heaven. Currently i use it alot for call of duty 2

How are you liking the X6?
Are you seeing any real-world benefits from Turbo CORE? Or can you even tell when it's coming into play?
I'm surprised AMD stuck with the 45mn process with this chip. Seems logical to step down to a smaller process with a 50% core increase. But maybe sticking at 45mn is why the X6 is priced at $300 instead of $1000 like the 980X.

I honestly disabled turbo core. I currently have the CPU clocked at 3.4GHz which is faster then the original turbo mode. I just didn't want instability.

My Windows 7 CPU score is 7.7.

Hehe, we're still whoring our wares... Yesterday, I ordered:

1x eVGA Classified SR-2 Mobo
2x Xeon X5680s (6x 3.33Ghz)
2x eVGA GTX480 FTW HydroCoppers

Going with all water cooling, HeatKiller blocks for the CPUs... Dropping the 24GB (from 2 rigs) of Corsair Dominator GT DDR3-1866 C7 in it. Also moving over the local storage (4x SSDs, LSI 6Gbps RAID), BD-RW and Auzentech audio from my existing rig. Only other new component will be a QLogic 10Gbps Unified Communication card for LAN/SAN.

Putting it into a custom powdercoated Lian-LI PC-P80... Aiming to mod it to look like a black/blue version of the MurderBox from Million Dollar PC! :woot:

The SR-2 won't ship til sometime in June, and they'll ship everything then. Argh, the wait!!! :ohno:
