I can't find this in the archives anywhere, but who here has taken it off and cleaned it, and painted it to their desired colour?

I wanna know whats involved, what type of paint you used.

Thanks,

lbrowne

I've done the same thing with one of mine. I also put on a clearcoat of High Temp paint for a little shine.

I've also got a chrome one, which looks really sweet when you have your polished intake and junk under the hood : )

you have a few options if you are going to paint it. The all out best thing to do, and also the most expensive would be powder coating, IMO. Just do it like special said, you can find high temp engine paint at discount auto parts, and most other good parts stores- they have a variety of colors. Another option- a friend of mine has an electroplater, so im going to try that with my spare valve cover. I'll let you guys know how it turns out, he says he can do the whole thing in silver/chrome and make the "NISSAN 2400 12 VALVE" gold. I'll keep ya posted.

cool thanks guys. i think i'll scrub the cover with the new garage edition CLR. to get it clean let it dry and then paint it.

when i take this cover off, are the upper timing chain guides exposed for me to remove? :) i have this post in another forum and no one has answered.

thanks again,

Hey, I was going to paint my car in a few weeks and I was wondering if I could use the same paint to paint the valve cover. Would the paint be able to stand up to the heat? Is there any way I can make it? I was going to paint it the same blue I am painting my car and polish the "Nissan twin cam 16 valve" part.

Thanks, Johann

I doubt it.....Theres a reason why they sell engine enamel/ and engine class paint. for the extreme heat.

Blast. Meh, I'll have to think of something else. I guess I could just polish the whole thing.

for those that did a home/custom clean and paint job....did you scrape off all that black coating thats on the valve cover?

mine flaked off in bits....but the rest seems to be on quite good. just wonder if i should just paint over once it dries.

Did anyone use a primer on it?!?!

What if I painted the valve cover with the car paint and then did a clear powdercoat or bead blasted it (i'm not too familiar with the powdercoating process)? Would that work?

You can't prove that I just made it up. I thought I remember reading somewhere that you could do something like that. Maybe I'm crazy. Oh well.

I know, I'm serious when I say I'm not sure if I heard that or if I just made it up.

i would replace it. a new valve cover gasket isnt very expensive but if you are really cheap then if it isnt hurt you should be able to bolt it back on no prob. but i dobt it will last being pulled off when you paint it.

found powdercoat for 40 bucks at local shop.. i'd rather do that then spray paint as it wont have a chance for runs smudges and from what i understand powdercoating makes it less penetrable for oil what not?
