it is dead. you barely get replies on here, that makes a forum boring. audizine, bimmerforums, bimmerfest for example are super active, makes you love your car more. But in this forums defense these cars are reliable so I feel that has a lot to do with it, on the German forums every other post is about a new problem.

It would get boring real fast if we all just gloated over these wonderful machines. As you note, our problems are relatively few compared to the Bimmers. About the only threads herein that get a lot of traffic are the modders. But for me why fix/mod something if it ain't broke?

We could go back to the saga of ERIC ( ), that was good for some passionate traffic....

2007 M45 Sport at 82500 miles. I have had a few things fixed under the Elite extended warranty: driver's seat rack, leaky fuel rail, replaced sway bar bushings. The battery was replaced when they were trying to fix a hard starting problem; that did not fix it, so they they replaced the crankcase position sensor; finally figured out that the fuel rail was leaking. On original shocks, which are still adequate. Replaced windshield due to heavy amount of pitting and stone nicks (insurance covered less $100 deductible). Interior still looks nearly new, everything in passenger cabin still works like new. I agree with an earlier comment that the fun of driving this car takes the sting out of fuel costs. Still getting 17 city/23.5 highway on average. Still the best car I have ever owned and love it!

86K miles on my 06 M45 Sport. No major issues thus far, had both headlights and a sensor (can't remember for what) replaced under elite warranty. The dilemma is extended warranty is up at the end of the month, do I purchase 3/36K extended warranty for $2K or roll the dice? Any input or feedback is appreciated.

If you're planning to keep the car for a few more years, extend the warranty. $2,000 is not a tinker's pence, BUT one major repair (A/C, gear box, engine work, electronics, etc) and you will recap your expense. Im at 80k with no repairs but even as great as these cars are, there has to be an expensive repair coming in my next 80k miles.
My warranty goes till 120k miles / 5 more years so I still have the peace of mind that you get with a new car.

Thanks, Larz. I appreciate your feedback. I am definitely leaning in that direction. Found my Credit Union offers a 3yr/36K for the same price as the Elite Protection. For those shopping for an extended warranty and do business with a Credit Union, you may want to inquire for options. In a perfect world, I would like to stick with the Elite coverage, but same price, same coverage and an additional year, I will be going with Vision Warranty via Auto Exam. Says there are backed by Allstate, so fingers crossed.

Just replaced the Radiator at 188,000 and Tranny at 198,000. Repairs other then those have been normal (i.e. Thermostate, headlight ballast, etc) no other repair has been over $300 bucks. Great car!

How much did it cost you to get the transmission done? Dealership or a tranny shop?

$1,000 delivered with extended two year warranty on parts and labor. It had 75K miles on it. I got a deal though expect to spend about $1,500

This was totally my fault!!! I've driven over 100,000 miles 3.5qts. low on transmission fluid which wasn't even Nissan spec.

06 M35X purchased new - various issues, but covered as follows:

8k - Nav Display Screen Replaced
60k - Fan Control Module Recall
66k - Transfer Case noise - TC Replaced
72k - Catalytic Converter Replaced
73k - Bottom End Knock - Shortblock/Bottom-End Replaced

A few other things along the way....it has 127,000 miles on it now.

Quite "abnormal" in terms of quality issues encountered, but seems to be running more consistent for past 50k miles

I have the same year but only 90k miles. I agree - manitenance is NOT cheap on these vehicles (or most others). I'm sure you'll agree when I say it's best not to just focus on the cost of maintaining our M's - we should think about the alternatives. If we don't do the maintenance, we will likely have to replace that part. Here are some examples:

Transmission service is about $250. Replacing transmission is over $4,000.
Coolant system flush / fill is about $200. Replacing JUST the radiator is over $700.
Power steering sevice is about $150. Replacing the power steering pump is over $1,000.
Brake fluid change is about an extra $100 if done whilst having brakes serviced - replacing major parts is thousands.

I we divide our maintenance cost over the number of years we have our cars, I don't think it's all that expensive but replacing parts due to lack of maintenace is a bloody fortune.

Na, I had my radiator replaced and new fluid filled (of course) for $350 with labor. Not at dealership, but the radiator is the OEM one. The part itself is somewhere a bit above $100 from what I remember. Dont think I ever flushed my coolant system, which is probably why one of the radiator fittings started leaking 5-6K miles ago. If the cost to do it is $200 then I doubt I will ever be doing them since it doesnt seem worth it to me. The radiator lasted 140,000 miles with no real maintenance.
