So yeah, I've been doin this for a while now mostly whenever I'm in congested/consistently stopped roads..At a redlight I popped the lever in 2nd and just start from there, no more starting in 1st. I see it as it has enough torque to comfortably get out of it with minimal bogging and wagging. Cause from what I see it 1st gear lasts me a good 1/4 second anyway. Eye was just wondering if this was fine to do consistently, and I think I've already been cleared and enlightened up on the whole skipping gears method..(sometimes i go 2, 4, then 6..when I'm just to tired and lazy... )

I graduated from Hogwarts 3 years ago and majored in engineering spells, One of the things I learned was casting a spell on a transmission and letting it shift all by itself.

Hah, and to all you who think the GT-R is really driven by computers and technology, before rolling off the line one of the Japanese wizards puts a spell on them.

If you are lazy then you don't want to keep shifting gears.

i skip from second to fifth all the time. to the op. i wouldnt say its terrible but its deff putting a bit more stress on the engine. just a smaller way to wear it out faster, but hell i have accidently started moving my car in third before lol.

because you are a window licker and lack the capacity to shift gears, it's all you can do to steer and work the stop and go pedals, anythign more would send you into a seizure

OMG I just pinched a loaf in my pants. That was fukcing awesome evil. Richie you definitely earned that one.

Soup running the motor like that or skipping gears usually puts a little more wear on the engine I did it in another vehicle I had about 10 years ago and I did not know any better.

dude....a 6speed Nissan pickup truck? Can I have some of what your smoking?

You are right you are not lazy, but dont forget why you have an Auto, (cuz Mommy didn't want you driving stick )or did you forget already?

Don't you use more gas starting from second? The revs are lower but you have to give more gas to get going. thats my 0.02...then again I like going through the gears...6spd FTW,

Clutch wear - that's the problem. Starting in 2nd means you've got to start out with higher RPMs to get enough torque to get moving AND you've got to have the clutch partially engaged longer too. Unless of course you're dumping the clutch in 2nd, which is about 1000 times worse than smooth starting in 2nd.

If you're in traffic and can keep from coming to a complete stop, stay in 2nd all the time. If you have to stop and go, it's better to use 1st for starting, but excuseable to keep it in 2nd and feather s needed, just know that you are shortening your clutch life. If you're using 2nd to start as a regular practice in daily driving, you're just throwing away money 'cuz you're going to need a new clutch twice as fast as normal.

As far as skip shifting (2nd-4th or 5th, 3rd-6th, etc) no harm done. Get your rocks off on a hard 0-50mph, then settle in to a smooth cruise going direct to 5th. As long as you're doing a decent job of matching the revs when you shift, it doesn't matter what gear you choose.

You could still be lazy and turn a lot of hours. Auto is not lazy its a luxury. With a stick there is little else to do besides keep your eyes on the road and pay attention to your driving. And i skip gears all the time. Heck sometimes if i'm really tired i don't down shift below third coming up to a light and i forget and have stalled or just took off from 3rd... lol light turns green and i g g g go!

Richie you should start throwin the gear into Neutral when you approach a red light, that way when people around you wonder if you have the auto or manny they can see that you have come to a complete stop with the brake lights off.

Thats pretty damn useless considering they would only be taking down speed with a radar gun. Visually seeing brake lights illuminate isn't going to halt the speed on the screen which comes on 3 seconds prior.

Regardless I don't think they care, but there's a difference seeing someone blow by you 8mph faster than someone doing 80 mph faster.
