Since I've been on here, I don't think I've seen G general go two days without a new post, much less a thread reply. Is it a football season thing?

Could it be that the site has become the slooooooowest forum on the internet?? :wtf2:
Trust me, I have an extremely fast connection at work and at home, but it behaves as if I'm connected via an old dialup modem hooked to an overloaded 386....
By the time the screen comes up, I've moved on to something else......
Perhaps it's time archive and purge the db??
Opportunity for your DBA to do some tuning?? :gotme

You would think that after owning a Mustang you would be used to slow things.

:lolling:

Sorry. It has been a while since we had a fight.

Netcraft.com shows an ISP change, a changeover from Linux to NetBSD, and from Apache 1.3 (ancient) to 2.2. The "last change" date is today, but they're not showing uptime, so that probably means they have not been running regular tests against the site. My query may have triggered the last change date as the first time they detected it.

If they just went live on a new setup, the changeover activity could have been slowing things down. But if it happened earlier and Netcraft just noticed, the new setup could be the cause.

It would appear as though I am not the only person suffering from automotiveoverload.

This place ebbs and flows all the time. Traffic drops significantly in the summer. As the cold sets in and peoples' cars start breaking more they usually return.

Good to hear from you, Steve. When did you become a mod? I missed that. Or maybe it's just memory decline.

I guess my OP was a little whiny, BTW. It's just that this feels like such a real community, and when you wander around and the streets are empty, it feels weird.

I'm sure it was a tremendous hardship to be offline for that long. ;)

Well, Halloween on Freemont Street was a blast. Tuesday through Friday were all day training classes. Friday through Monday was "free time" on the strip. I met up with AZhitman and others on Wednesday night as they were there for SEMA, it had been too long since I've hung around with those guys :(

All in all it was fine. I did pop in a couple of times when trying out an ipad 2, but otherwise I was "busy" :)

Well, technically it was your husband who got robbed, right? But I know what you mean.

That reminds me of the joke about the heavy betting guys who are on the back nine at the golf course when a couple of robbers come out of the woods, guns drawn. One golfer pulls a wad of money out of his pocket and says, "Here's that $500 I owe you from the front nine, Joe". :rotflmao

Lorri and I have "his", "hers", and "household". It's a comfortable illusion.

They definitely call the shots. Mine likes it our way: I handle the household account and pay all the bills. She gives me her set monthly contribution and I make up the rest (salary is about twice hers). If she's short when she buys a car, she gets 0% financing from the First Bank of Jake.

David makes about 5 times what I do. I just sit back and shut up and appreciate what I get. Fortunately, he lets me have my toys.

I let my wife quit her job and take off a few months. Med-Surg is not a good nursing role for her so hopefully she will find something less stressful.

It's kind of interesting to see how other people do the same types of tasks. I can imagine those who got together later in their dating careers have well established systems in place for their own financial management strategy.

Mine works completely different. I married a type A accountant, and we lived had lived together since we were 19 (I know I'm not the only one to make some reeeeally dumb decisions at that age). She handles it now and I hand over my cash and things work well most of the time. I suck at personal finance, and she sucks at carrying heavy things so our weak points (partially ) cancel out.

I didn't have money to really have "finances" with my first wife. Raising kids as a single parent years later ensured I had nothing for quite a long time. 2nd wife was horrible with finances and spent money faster than it could come in. What's bad is she did billing/finance for an insurance company and knew better. Took me a couple years to get THAT mess straightened out. Current wife is anal about bills. She pays them early, paid the cars off in 1/2 the time and pays double on the house. The house is the only "bill" we have today. Credit cards always have a 0 balance. She saved my a** on my 401k as she had me make changes away from stocks. Instead of losing money like others (my sisters got killed) mine went up. She's a smart cookie.

You should definitely hang on to this one, Matt. She's a keeper. I'm down about 50K in my 401K-like deferred comp account, and I was reasonably diversified across various kinds of funds.
